I used to have MyPhoneExplorer on my old computer.
It used to list, under the User tab, all the phones I had had, going back several years, and I could tap on different users (phones) and see e.g. SMS conversations from different phones I had in the past.
I now have a new computer and I have successfully installed MyPhoneExplorer and connected it to my current phone and restored data from the latest backup of my phone and synced and I could see my current phone under "user" with all the data I would expect.
I then tried to restore the data for the phones I have had in the past from backups expecting that the data for those would appear under a separate User tab, but when I try to do this the SMS messages for the old phones are not restored and the old phones do not appear under the User tab - just my current phone appears as a user.
How can I get data for old phones - particularly SMS data? |

In order to get the old user data into the new installation, you need to have saved that data somewhere.
If you still have the old computer data, on a hard drive for example, goto to the data path on the new computer which is %appdata%\MyPhoneexplorer where you find one directory per user / phone, the same on the old computer or its former disc. You can copy the user directories from the old drives to the new one.
If you do not have the complete old computer data, you can add the old users using the menu and restore their data from MPE backups for these users ... provided you made such ... |

I have MPE backups but I don't have the old phones anymore.
When I tap Add User (per your suggestion above) it wants to connect to a phone - but I don't have the old phones. |

If you are able to go this way, there will be no need to connect to old phones:
Zitat: | If you still have the old computer data, on a hard drive for example, goto to the data path on the new computer which is %appdata%\MyPhoneexplorer where you find one directory per user / phone, the same on the old computer or its former disc. You can copy the user directories from the old drives to the new one. | The old user will then appear in the user list and can be browsed offline.
In case you do not have that data but only MPE backup files, it might be more complicated to add a user by adding a user directory bypassing MPE's add user function. Maybe you can copy the active user directory and modify identity information to an unique identifier. However, I am not sure what must be done. If you are going to experiment, remember to make backup copies before modifications. |

- Close MPE
- Goto to the data path on the new computer which is %appdata%\MyPhoneexplorer
- Create an additional folder of the new cell phone e.g. Samsung SM-G988B [123456789012345]
- Start MPE
- Activate the displayed new user
- Use right mouse button (context menu) => change/name password rename the new user
- Messages => Archive(computer) => (context menu) right mouse button => Export/Import => Import... => backup***.mpb |

How do I "Activate the displayed new user"? |

If MyPhoneExplorer detects the userfolder then you should see it in Menu-File-Users |

Actually, it would make more sense to import all old SMS into the user menu of the existing user (the latest cell phone):
Messages => Archive(computer) => (context menu) right mouse button => Export/Import => Import... => backup***.mpb |
