Newer Phones (K850) Contacts Features

I have just realised MPE does not support all the fields in the Contacts application for newer SEMC handsets. I have a K850i (which still works brilliantly with MPE) but it has 2 extra fields in the Contacts app which I make use of:
Mobile (Private)
Mobile (Work)
Would it be possible to add these fields to a future version of MPE, or will they have to be left out for backwards-compatibility with older handsets?
Also, will MPE ignore these fields when synchronising, or will it remove the entries from the phone?

I will try to implement thos fields.
But since i have no test-device i am depend on your help. Can you do the following for me ?:
- disable third-party apps to sync. sync only between your phone and MyPhoneExplorer
- if both databases are equal, then create a new contact in your phone using your phone keypad. Fill in all supported fields
- sync again
- post the logfile so i can see which fields are supported
Very thanks

Hi FJ,
I have a K850i and thought that I would try and help you get the info you wanted.
I disabled all third party sync and enabled logging then refreshed to make sure the phone and the app data matched. I then added a contact to my phone which included the following info:
Mobile: 001
Mobile (private): 002
Mobile (work): 003
Home: 004
Work: 005
Fax: 006
Other: 007
When I refresh MPE I got this in the sync log:
Contact created [MyPhoneExplorer]
after
Name: MyName
Title: MyTitle
Home: 004
Mobile: 003
Work: 005
Other: 007
Fax: 006
email: MyEmail
email: MyEmail2
email: MyEmail3
Web: MyWebAddr
Company: MyCompany
Address: Myzip2 Mycity2, Mystreet2 - Mycounty2 - Mystate2
Address: (work): Myzip Mycity, Mystreet - Mycountry - Mystate
Birthday: 22/11/2007
Info: MyInfo
The numbers 001 and 002 were not shown in MPE and there was nothing in the log about them!
I removed "Mobile (work): 003" from my phone contact and refreshed again then got as above except for "Mobile: 002".
I then removed "Mobile (private): 002" from my phone contact and refreshed again then got as above except for "Mobile: 001".
It seems that the three fields in my phone map to one field in MPE.
I hope that helps but if you need any more info then please give me a shout (I can also run VB6 code if that is any help?). Cheers

Also, thought I would see what happens when I update the contact via MPE. I restored my test contact in my phone to the original state, i.e.:
Mobile: 001
Mobile (private): 002
Mobile (work): 003
Home: 004
Work: 005
Fax: 006
Other: 007
I refreshed and the contact in my phone was unchanged but MPE did not show 001 or 002.
I then editted the contact in MPE and put 900 in the mobile field. When I refreshed my contact looked like this:
Mobile: 900
Home: 004
Work: 005
Fax: 006
Other: 007
MPE had removed the "Mobile (private)" and "Mobile (work)" numbers!!

Spike274,
I have run similar tests - you just got in before me!
I find the same results - the extra mobile numbers seem to be picked up by MPE, but if the contact is changed in MPE, the extra fields are scuppered.
I also noticed that, although the extra numbers do not appear in the contacts section in MPE, the messages section will display the contact name associated with the number. E.g. using Spike's example, MPE will display:
Name: MyName
Title: MyTitle
Home: 004
Mobile: 003
Work: 005
Other: 007
Fax: 006
in the contacts, but if I get a SMS from 002 the Message app will tell me it's from MyName.
Hope this info is of use.
Ed.

Hi FJ,
Hope the above is useful. Please could you confirm if you think you will be able to get these two new options working in the next version?
Thanks

Don't rush the poor developer! v1.6.4 hasn't been out all that long and you're already eager for the next one - have patience!
BTW, just thought I'd mention that I like the picture of the K850 I now get on the Monitor page since v1.6.4 - nice touch, FJ. It's even the black & green one, just like mine!

Sorry, didn't mean to appear that I was rushing the version along.
I'm a fellow developer who is happy to help test extra functionality for the K850i handset if FJ doesn't have a test device.

You can test it if i have a beta for you

The
beta is avaiable now. After a initial PB-Sync with this beta you should see the missing fields in MyPhoneExplorer.
MPE v1.6.5 Beta

Hi FJ,
Thanks very much for the beta. The new fields in MPE seem to work perfectly to me. Minor niggle is the tab order on the contact form but I know that you probably know that anyway..
FYI, I created a new contact in MPE v1.6.5 and populated all fields including the following:
Mobile: 1
Mobile (H): 2
Mobile (W): 3
Home: 4
Work: 5
Fax: 6
Other: 7
When I syncronized MPE with my K850i, the new contact was created with all fields correct. I then updated the contact in the phone (prefixed all numbers with a "9"), sycronized again and the contact appeared correctly in my phone explorer.
Mobile: 91
Mobile (H): 92
Mobile (W): 93
Home: 94
Work: 95
Fax: 96
Other: 97
However, I have noticed problems when sycronizing with Outlook (currently using 2003 but can also test 2007 if you need me to):
1. I created the contact in MPE and when I syncronized the FAX field mapped to the Outlook "Business Fax" field. I then updated the value in my K850i, syncronized and the FAX field mapped to the Outlook "Home Fax" field.
(When I had finished the above test the "Business Fax" was set to "6" and the "Home Fax" was set to "96"). Maybe they should both map to "Business Fax" ?
2. I could not find which fields "Mobile (H)" and "Mobile (W)" were mapped to in Outlook. Possible fields we could use are "Home Phone 2" and "Business Phone 2" respectively?
I hope the above is useful anyway.

1) I'll take a look at it
2) At the moment the new fields are not mapped. You should know that Outlook is only one Sync-Target of many - the adaption to all targets need time. This has also not the highest priority

FJ, thanks for this. I only sync my Sony Ericsson with MPE, as it's my personal phone, so these changes are all I need. My work phone is a Windows SmartPhone, so it syncs with Outlook separately.
Will this feature be incorporated into the next release, or will it be held back until the fields for Outlook, Notes, etc. are set up?
Thanks again.
Ed.

The new fields and the correct sync will work in the next official update.
