Have used MPE for many years. Today I ran a sync between my S23 ultra to outlook but fortunately I always preview changes before allowing the sync.
There were some valid changes but it also listed hundreds of contacts I know I didn't change on my phone or oulook, I had to look hard to figure out. In some cases MPE said the phone contact said OH but it was Ohio. In some the phone had a state spelled out while outlook/MPE desktop showed the full state. And suite number was in a different order (before vs after the address?) on outlook vs. the phone for some entries. Those seem to be the two differences on all that came up to sync. Not sure if an android update changed something or if MPE used to ignore the state abbreviation vs spelled out and is now checking? No idea on suite numbers. All I know I have not touched these 100's of contacts since last sync.
I am used to the odd 2 or 3 old contacts popping up that I didn't change over the years but not this many. I aborted the outlook sync as I didn't know what was going on.
Did something change somehow? I remember the client needing to update to get sync working a while ago but that sync was okay.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks!

Which contact account is activated in the cell phone = MPE client = Settings = Contact accounts to be synchronized?
- Activate only the one “Phone” account here
- MPE on the PC: Contacts => Blue Arrow (Download entire)
- Force a sync from Outlook mobile
- In the contacts app on your cell phone, just activate “Phone” for viewing |

Here are the answers.
MPE on the PC: Contacts => Blue Arrow (Download entire)
Just one gmail contact account is selected to sync. There are over 1,000.....only 400 or so are asking to be synced per the above.
- Force a sync from Outlook mobile
I believe you are saying for one time to have the phone overwrite outlook for all contacts. This would essentially sync those 400+ and also just recopy those with no changes?
- In the contacts app on your cell phone, just activate “Phone” for viewing
This one i do not understand. I do not save any contacts to "phone"/SIM. I only use the Gmail account to display in the Samsung contacts app and sync with MPE. J do not display phone contacts as there are none there.
Thanks!

Samsung's local contact account 'Phone' is not the same as the contacts on the SIM card!
Your problems most likely come from the Gmail account,
i.e. I recommend a local contact account.
You should definitely follow the order of actions I suggested!
1. Phone => MPE-Client => Settings => contact-accounts to sync Activate only the one “Phone” account
2. MPE on the PC: Contacts => Blue Arrow (Download entire)
3. Force a sync from Outlook > phone
4. In the contacts app on your cell phone, just activate “Phone” for viewing |

Thanks. I now understand what you are suggesting.
I have been using MPE and syncing with the gmail calendar and contacts placeholder account (it is NEVER synced with google...that is always off) for a decade at least. This is why I support the software over the years.
I only use outlook as a backup and never use calendar or contacts in outlook.
I never edit or change my data on the mpe desktop.
I only change contacts and calendar items on my phone.
Not sure what caused this sync issue and MPE to see my stats and suites differently. Unless an android update somehow changed things?
Anyway, will review and see what I can do when some time set aside.
Thanks again for the help.

I have been busy and have not been able to get to this but was starting to today.
I would like to describe a very specific situation that is appearing over and over and forcing a sync.
I have a contact I am looking at my phone. The state is **Spelled out**. Ohio
I am looking at my MPE sync screen which I review before syncing.
It says the "entry in phone" is "OH". But it is NOT!
It says the "entry in Outlook" is "Ohio".
This is why these contacts never needed to sync before...... MPE properly reported that the phone state was "Ohio", Outlook was "Ohio" and therefore no sync is needed.
I have many contacts like this.
I have traced back my last successful sync to perhaps before the last MPE client update where there were sync issues for everyone.
Just providing input, not challenging that I should be using the "phone" bucket. However if it does the sync compare like this, It would do the same thing.
The bottom line is MPE is reporting the state differently then the phone (an S23 Ultra running one UI6.1/Android 14.
Another specific, MPE is now showing any "suite number" before the address where it used to be after and those are syncing too.
I am a long-time user and supporter/contributor of MPE and just want the best for the software.
Thanks,

If I understood you correctly, are the contacts in Outlook correct?
These problems shouldn't exist with the 'Phone' contact account.

Greetings.
Technically both the abbreviation and fully spelled state is "correct". An accurate vs. inaccurate representation of what is in the field on the phone is the issue.
The issue is when MPE reads the state from the phone, it is reporting it in-accurately. That may be a better way to say it. The phone and outlook have exactly the same data in the field. But MPE is reporting it differently as noted above thus forcing it to show differently in the sync routine.

That's exactly what I doubt, sorry.
I rather suspect that 'OH' is stored internally in the cell phone's database but is correctly displayed as 'Ohio'. |

Ahhh, I got you now.
I guess my only question is some of these contacts were input years ago, been sync'd by MPE hundreds of times, and they never popped up as an item needed to be updated like this. Until this month. We may never know
