switched messaging apps and MCE cannot sync messages

I have used Signal for years, but now that they are disabling its ability to work as my non-signal messaging app, I have installed Google Messages, and have used Signal to backup all my non-Signal texts and get them into Messages.

This worked, and I can see thousands of texts in messages now.

But, when I sync MCE, I am getting "OBEX Error Code: 00 - Phone didn't answer, Timeout"

The rest of the sync goes fine, and everything before and after does sync properly.

I have checked permissions on the phone and MCE does have all permissions, specifically including SMS and even says it was accessed in the past 24 hours, but I keep getting this error, and the Messages area of MCE on the laptop shows no messages, so something isn't working, and i'm not sure what to do to fix this issue.

Please install the current beta of the client on your phone: https://www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

I did fix this issue some weeks ago. If you still get the problem with the beta client then please contact me via email with a link to this thread.

I have checked the apk - no SMS can be backed up not for Google Messages nor for Textra. maybe its because these apps don't write messages back into the default location
/data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

these are the paths where the messages are stored.

Google Messages
/data/user/0/com.google.android.apps.messaging/databases/bugle_db
/data/user/0/com.google.android.apps.messaging/databases/bugle_db-wal
/data/user/0/com.google.android.apps.messaging/databases/bugle_db-shm

Textra
/data/user/0/com.textra/databases/messaging.db
/data/user/0/com.textra/databases/messaging.db-journal

Thx for the reply. client v1.0.48 is what I use on all my phones all the time because of this, works fine for the standard sms database. The problem is that the mentioned SMS apps read all messages from standard database, but do not write its own messages back in that location. Therefore the issue is not with writing, MPE can also not read SMS.
