Thunderbird Cal, Repeating Event, Individual Change Not Sync
Verfasst: Do 10. Mär 2022, 18:29
von loyukfai
When I create a repeating event in Thunderbird's calendar, then adjust one occurrence (e.g. time), the change isn't synced to phone.
OTOH, if I adjust the occurence on phone, the change is synced back to Thunderbird.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

You probably mean, if you correct a single date of the series (ie an exception) in Thunderbird, this error occurs!?
Thanks for the info, I am forward this issue to FJ

Yes, you're right
Let's say I create a Mon-Fri recurring schedule of 9am-6pm
Then, if I change one Wednesday occurrence to 10am-7pm in Thunderbird, MPE will not propagate the difference to the phone.
Interestingly, if I make the change on the phone, MPE will propagate back the difference back to Thunderbird.

No, not yet.
I have forwarded the problem to FJ without obligation, that's all I can do about it

Unfortunately FJ hasn't found time to add the feature yet, sorry?!
Just for information: It works with Outlook

Confirmed with Tbird 115.6. Did exactly as above and a phone change gets sync'ed to TBird but a TBird change gets ignored.
To add: as this was just ba test for me I then proceeded delete the repeated event in TBird. I clicked on the events first day and hit <DEL>. Thisd deleted all the repeated events except for the one I'd just edited on the phone and sync'ed back to TBird. Maybe this is what should happen but it could point to where the problem is ...?

@dvhttn
This is so correct and not an error, the exception of the series is realized in MPE as follows:
- The changed appointment is declared as an exception in the series and is therefore deleted
- An individual appointment will be created for the changed appointment

Ah, thought it might be that but you should never *assume* ....

Yeah, it works with Outlook, and also the other way around (phone -> TB), so I'm not sure why it happens... but I'm finally switching from Outlook to Thunderbird so...

Thanks for confirming. Yes this is the same way in Outlook too, when you change one event out of a recurrance/repeating/series event, the new one will become "detangled" from the original.
The fact that it works in Outlook, and also phone -> Outlook/TB, seems to me something is off for the TB logic.
Anyhow, shall wait for FJ to fix it.
Cheers.

One interesting thing I observed is that, deleting one event out of a series will propagate, but changing the time of individual events won't.
Cheers.

I tested again on version 2.2
By creating a daily repeating event for 2 days.
When I tried to change the time of the 2nd date.
The change was propagated to the phone.
However, the 1st event/date was incorrectly changed to be the same as the 2nd date too.
Cheers.

@loyukfai
I can't reproduce the problem?!
Maybe you didn't change the time for the second appointment but for the series of appointments?
