I have a subfolder .stfolder created by Syncthing which I would like to exclude from the file copy operations. I have tried *\.stfolder\*.* as suggested elsewhere in the forum. Doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Tried that. Initially didn't work. However, if I put a file in the folder, even though it's a zero byte file, it works! Strange. Theoretically, it should be possible to exclude an empty folder too.

Here's what the scenario:

01. Have folder A on my Windows laptop and folder B on my Android phone.
02. Folder A has .stignore file and .stfolder an empty folder.
03. Have set up both ways synchronization between folder A and folder B.
04. Want to ignore .stignore and .stfolder during synchronization.Would like to retain the .stignore file and the folder .stfolder on A though they are missing in Folder B.
05. Ignoring .stignore works fine. The file is retained in Folder A.
06. However, the folder .stfolder though an empty folder gets deleted even though I add *\.stfolder\* to the ignore list or not.
07. The only way to retain this folder is to add a dummy file to it and add *\.stfolder\* to the ignore list.

Is this the expected behavior? If empty folders are ignored they should not be deleted from the source if they are missing from the destination.

OK, I understand your problem.
The filter is normally only responsible for files, the directory filter is a workaround see => https://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?p=102574#102574
You have 2 options:
1. Using a dummy file (you already found that out yourself)
2. If the folder exists on the PC, it should not be deleted either, in the case of two-way sync
So please create the same empty subfolder on the PC as well.

Thanks again. I understand the first option and have already implemented it.

However, not very clear about the second option. The folder does exist on the PC but not on the mobile. It does get deleted in the case of two way sync unless there is a dummy file in it. An inconvenient workaround in my mind. However, if there is nothing better I can live with it!

Will go through the link you posted. Need to run it through Google translate as it is in German.

OK, then create the empty folder on the phone as well
If the same empty folders exist on both sides, they will not be deleted

Nevertheless, I will question 'Deleting empty folders' again.

In that case I will prefer to have tha5 dummy file in the folder on the laptop. Would not like to clutter the storage on the mobile.

Of course would prefer a clean solution to ignore empty folders during synchronization.

Thanks for your helping sorting out this issue. Much appreciated.
