Disable Windows Vista's User Account Control:
1. Click Start Menu
2. Control Panel
3. User Accounts
4. Turn User Account Control Off
Give that a try, and let me know if it works alright for you.

I recently got a new notebook and it has Vista. I installed MPE right away and used it fine once or twice. Last night I launched it and I get a message that it has stopped working. I tried to reinstall and I get MyPhoneExplorer_Setup_1.6.3exe has stopped working.....
User Account Control has been disabled, but I don't know what to do now.....

Please rename the databasefolder %appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer . On the next startup MyPhoneExplorer will generate a fresh folder, maybe its caused from the datafiles.

i went to users/ME/appdata/roaming/myphoneexplorer and renamed it, but that didn't help. I would like to do a fresh install, but cannot get past that point either.

To get a fresh install please deinstall MyPhoneExplorer before you install it again
EDIT: The same problem existed on some german users. Register the file comctl32.ocx in the systemdirectory manually. maybe this helps (Drag&Drop it to the file regsvr32.exe)

it isn't even showing as an installed program anymore in control panel, so I deleted the files for it ( I know that isn't an uninstall tho) last nite cause I couldn't get it to run in the 1st place. Now the installer has the same message that it stops working.
(your response time is excellent)

C:\Program Files\MyPhoneExplorer\DLL\ShellMgr.dll ....after the extractions, yjis line is registering when the error appears.

If the setup gives now also errors then it depends on your security-settings. Deactivate the User-Account-Managment, ensure that you have adminrights and also set an exception for the Setup in the DEP-List.

that worked for me....i just changed the setting to turn on DEP for essential windows programs only.
Thank you again for your fast replies, great help and one of the best programs and definitely the most useful!
