xxx chat button causes MPE to quit

Using the latest iteration of Win10 (v1909, build 18363.900) and whenever I click the chat button, MPE 1.8.14 closes apruptly. Chat worked reasonably well, with occasional crashes, in the previous version of MPE.
Any idea what the issue may be? Thanks.
