Backing up SMS and MMS on Android

Hello,

Sorry if I missed the information but I am a new user of MPE (I use a Fairphone FP2 phone). I mainly want to backup SMS/MMS ideally in a Thunderbird MailBox although a simple human readable format is OK too.

I have been able to connect to the phone and download the messages and I have found the button to save them on my drive (file SMSArchive.dat). Are their better export options ?

Moreover, it doesn't seem to save the MMS. Is it possible ?

Thanks in advance,
Mathieu

Short answer: no.

MMS can´t be handled by the MPE.
Like WhatsApp or some other messaging formats, the MPE can only handle plain text messages, known as SMS.

I just started facing a similar issue. SMS/MMS backuped by "SMS Back up and Restore app" on one phone. Restoring on another phone fails. If I do not restore MMS, it works with no issue.

Did you find a solution?

Dear all,

@Koelner: thanks for the confirmation. Is MMS support planned for some future version ?

@BitGid: sorry for your problem and thanks for your discovery (I wanted to try "SMS Back up and Restore"). Unfortunately, this forum is for MPE so I'm not sure anyone can help you.

No, since there is no working API for that and it´s extremely unlikely that there will ever be one.
