MPE opens & closes within a minute, solution please?

Up until 2 days ago, 26-1-15, mpe 1.8.6 working fine. Now opens, looks for phone & whether it connects or not shuts down all within a minute. I have installed the debug upgrade didn't help, rebooted pc twice didn't help. One message on German board with same problem but no replies. Anyone else got this problem or suggest how to fix it? Sad

Has noone else had this problem suddenly develop?
I tried uninstalling mpe, rebooted reinstalled still shuts down in few seconds after doing the auto sync I had in the settings as always.
Debug log seems fine it just shuts itself down on pc. Last few lines of debug as follows:-

I have the same problem. MPE opens and closes within a minute. Can't sync. Anyone knows help? The log fiile looks like this (I don't read German) --

OK, I've found the culprit. It's the "Machine works as Double-Byte-Character-System!" in the log that matters. Resetting Windows to use English (or other single-byte language) for "Current language for non-UNICODE programs" (Control Panel > Language > Change date, time, or number formats > Administrative) fixes the issue. At last!!

I do not have this setting in my older version...
Perhaps there is someone else who has found a slightly different solution ??
I found another posting about DEP, but it is off already, so that did not solve it either.

Any ideas to fix this will be hugely appreciated !!
