sync problem with Lightninig and Thunderbird

Hi!
I have Z530i and I am trying to sync it with my TB(2.0) and Lighting (.5pre). Additionally I have an add on MPE 0.8.1. and MPE sopftware wervion 1.5.10 (the latests debug). Now, I can connect to my phone, read and write SMSs, access phone book etc. So the connectivity is OK. When I try to sync my phone with TB-L then I get into trouble. What I do is as follows:
- I have my TB open
- I open MPE and connect to the phone
- click on the calendar and ask to sync
- a sync window opens and my phone reports that it is synchronizing
- a second window opens saying that MPE extension is not installed or old and would I like to install a new one.
- I say OK, it asks to close TB, goes through the installation routine, relaunches TB and then...
- I get an error message "Loading entries from Thunderbird failed"

That's it. So I am really stuck here and any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

You can install the Mozilla-Plugin also manually in Thunderbird. The extension is located in C:\Programs\MyPhoneExplorer\mpe-addin.xpi

OK. I think it is my turn now to jump into this discussion ;-)

1) Please verify the Addon-Version, it should be 0.8.19, not 0.8.1.

2) Open a command line window, change into the thunderbid program directory and execute the following command:

thunderbird -mpe list-cals=c:\cals.txt

3) Post the contents of c:\cals.txt

4) Which of these calendars did you select for sync? Which one is the primary calendar?

NP, ThankX!
The add on is 0.8.19
The contents of the cals file is:
work moz-profile-calendar://?id=2 RW #FF0000

I only have one calendar...

OK, next step is to try if item export works with your calendar (it probably will): try the following command:

thunderbird.exe -mpe export-items=c:\items.txt

If this creates the file c:\items.txt containing your calendar items, you probably are bitten by the fact that your username contains special characters, and thus your MPE database directory path also contains special characters.

If this is the case, you should see an error in thunderbirds Javascript error console after trying to sync.

The workaround is to move your MPE database directory to a new location ( for example C:\MPE). You can change to path of your MPE Database Directory in the MPE preferences (extended settings 2).

I think the problem is somewhere else. The reason I think that is thaw when I try to sync I get the following message:
The MyPhoneExplorer-Extension is either not installed or too old. Install the newest plugin now?

I do have the newest version etc. I think the program just does not see it somehow. Why would that be?

That might have the same cause. What is the path to your thunderbird profile directory? Normally, it also has your windows user name in it.

MPE seems to have problems with paths that contain some (but not all) non-ASCII-characters.

Can you post your windows username - not the one shown at logon, but the "short name" that is also used for your personal settings?

@FJ: Have you checked what MPE does if the Windows user name contains NON-ASCII?

the path is:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird Beta 1

Could it be that the empty spaces cause problems?

Also, I don;t have a "short name" on my PC. The whole thing sits on a university net and we login with things like m00156478 or u56987456 etc. So there we don't have special characters.

No. But are you using Beta 1 of Thunderbird 2? That could be a problem. Furthermore, do you have local Administrator rights on this PC? MPE needs them for installation.

And you have given the Thunderbird install directory. I would like to know the path of your user profile. It is usually something like C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla Thunderbird\profiles\asdlnk213

or something like that.

I am using TB2.0, one of the latests builds.
Also, I am an administrator of the PC. My path is:

C:\Documents and Settings\u0018321.MED\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\2mb0zvii.default

OK, then you should probably reinstall thunderbird. You are still using the install directory from the 2.0 Beta version; I think this might confuse MPE when checking for the thunderbird executable and wether the extension is installed.

So, you should deinstall thunderbird (this should leave your profile intact) and then reinstall it to the usual path (without beta).

OK, a good news and a not so good news. So what I did was uninstall TB, L and MPE. Then I reinstalled them all. So, now I can syns, no problem. I don't get error messages, all my phone and SMS data get from the Phone to the computer.
The not so good news is that my Calenrad in Lighting is full of things. After running sync, the software does not protest but NONE of the events from Lighting ends up on my cell phone. Any idea why?

Well, first to eliminate the obvious: After reinstalling, did you select your calendar for synchronisation in the MPE preferences?

mhmmm... we are back to square 1. If I try to setup in the options TB and L as my applications, the program again complains about the fact that I have an old plugin (which I don't - 0.8.19 is the latests) and it refuses to connect and synchronize :(

Do you have two Thunderbird-Installations ?

OK, I see.

@FJ: Something is amiss with MPE here. It seems to me that the extension install check is failing, but why I cannot determine.
