Problem restoring backup

So, I accidentally duplicated all my calendar entries by somehow syncing with Google Calendar. While trying to fix that, I inadvertently deleted everything from both the PC client and my phone. No problem, I had a backup from two days previously that I could restore...

Problem...MPE is timing out part way through restoring my calendar and tasks. Everything else restores fine.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MPE, uninstalling and reinstalling an older version of MPE, restarting phone, switching debugging off and on again, switching Android client off and on again, connecting through USB (my normal route) and WiFi, tried with 'avoid standby' and 'allow standby', all on two different PCs (both of which I've been running MPE on without a probem for nearly three years).

Help? Please?

(I have no idea when any of my appointments are now, and I hate Google Calendar)

Samsung Galaxy SII
MPE versions 1.8.6 and 1.8.5
