SMS being sent.. but not appearing in Sent items or on phone

I have seen an entry mentioning this, but the version numbers were strange.
I am on 1.8.6.
I LOVE the software, and use it to keep my calendar/Contacts/Notes synched between Thunderbird on my desktop and my laptop via my Sony Ericsson Xperia.
My Desktop is Win7 pro (32) and my Laptop is Win7 pro (64).
This problem started on my laptop. I receive a message and reply to it (using Bluetooth). The message bubble comes up to say 'Message Sent', but the message is not anywhere in the messages section - or on the phone. I know its been sent because a reply comes back.
Yesterday.. My Desktop started to behave in the same way (connected via USB)
What can I check / provide / try to solve this?

Well done.. I missed that.
I must say.. I am so so pleased with the software. I got offered an Iphone and tested it. The palava of synching to a PC made me give it back and stick with my android.
