I was wondering if there would be a chance to manually set an IP address in the MPE client on my andriod phone?

this would allow me to sync outside my home network via the internet...

I'd also need the port number so I can open the port on my firewall..?

Due security concerns its not planned to add this functionality. MPE Client gives access to alot of data. It would be scary if a bot network could ping all available IP-Tables and connect to MPE Client.

I totally understand your concern...

I guess there are a lot of programs out there now days that allow direct connection to your computer via the internet. I have a few of them already.


you have a PIN feature on the wifi connection.. for me that would be good security... and perhaps maybe if you allowed a device ID to be entered.. so the connection to the main pc program would only accept certain devices to transfer data? also allow the port to be changed like you can in most programs so theres no default port.

For me this would be a good solouation using MPE rather than having a hosted exchange server.. and having my data on a server that I dont know.

I think a few other programs can do sync... but thats via a cloud.

Could you reconsider ? please... it would add another feature to your program?

For you and only for you. There are so many MPE users out there who are not able to handle the basic functions of this programm the risk of puting a vunerable feature like this into the progamm is just too high.

what about if the PC client has an extra option to sync via dropbox... or microsoft onedrive or google drive?

that way you can then instruct the phone client to connect to dropbox... or microsoft onedrive or google drive?

would that be considered secure enff?

That is already possible with onboard solutions. So there is no need to implement that into the MPE. Besides, this would lead the MPE awax from it´s key functions.
