MPE 1.8.6 Stopped connecting to Samsung S4

On 25/11/14 (after having come to utterly depend on MPE for some 18 month or more) my pc was unable to connect to my Galaxy S4. It has worked beautifully until then. There was nothing changed to my knowledge - I had been using MPE before I went to bed, but the next day, NOTHING !
I have spent HOURS And DAYS checking all sorts of settings and options in my pc and phone but still nothing works.
I changed MPE from an old Win7 Pro laptop to a Win7 Pro pc two weeks earlier without issue. Auto updates are switched off. MPE 1.8.6 on pc and 1.0.34 on phone. Both have since been re-installed 2 or 3 times, my pc has been re-started numerous times. My router has not changed. (The phone can still download / communicate via wifi on the router) The ip on the phone is still the same.
I am utterly desperate and hope that somebody has some suggestions . . .

The WIFI setting on my router appears to be the culprit that had changed !!

I restarted the router then turned the wifi off and, after a minute or so, turned it back on . . . hey presto all working again !!

Sooo frustrating because the router is in another room and because the phone still appeared to be communicating ok with the router I never RE-checked that extra time.

Trap for the inexperienced !!
