I have searched this forum and found numerous highly technical entries that are impossible to follow.
I have used MyPhoneExplorer with my Samsung Galaxy running Android 2.6 before on this Win8.1 laptop, but now it no longer sees the phone connected. USB debugging is enabled. I am using version 1.8.6 of MPE.
Please don't simply tell me to do something with HTC - I don't even know what that abbreviation stands for.
Please don't tell me to download ADB drivers for my phone. I didn't before, I didn't uninstall them, why do I need them? Again: it used to work! When I go to the site for the ADB drivers, I am presented with three options to download:
1. USB Drivers for Mobile Phone.
2. USB Drivers for Mobile Phone (yes, the same, different date)
3. Android ADB Interface Drivers.
What follows is technospeak that I don't understand. There is no way to understand what a person is supposed to do (http://www.andromods.com/download-files/get-new-updated-version-samsung-usb-adb-interface-drivers.html)
I am not computer illiterate, but I guess I need step by step instructions on how to get MPE to work again. It used to work just fine.
HELP!!!!!!!!

Let´s start at the top.
Did you start the MPE Client on the phone before attempting to connect it to the MPE on the computer?
Are you able to connect the phone just via cable to your pc without using MPE? |

I had not started MPE as client on the phone. Pretty sure I never did before. This time I did, but it still claims no USB device is connected to the cable. MPE on the phone is set to start teh client automatically (probably why I don't remember ever having to do that before). The MPE client states that the USB cable is connected. Don't know if it makes any difference, but the USB cable is connected to a USB 3.0 powered hub. However, yesterday it wouldn't connect when plugged into a USB2.0 non powered hub, nor plugged in directly to my Win8.1 laptop's USB2.0 connector.
How would I know whether the phone is connected other than starting up MPE?

Nope,
Explorer does not see the phone or the SD card (in the phone). It does see my Kindle, my TomTom etc. when they are USB connceted. In fact, the Kindle connects with the same cable I am using for the phone.

DBoydNL hat Folgendes geschrieben: | Please don't simply tell me to do something with HTC - I don't even know what that abbreviation stands for. | High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) is a manufacturer of smartphones. Because you´re using a Samsung, there is no need to bother with HTC.

Maybe it worked fine without them in a previous version of software but typically to establish a USB connection between a smartphone and a computer you need those drivers. Many smartphones come with these drivers and install them automaticlly onto the computer when connected for the first time. It is possible that due to the updates these installed drivers are not operating right any more or even a windows update on your computer is causing the trouble.

Go to this webiste (from the forums FAQ) http://adbdriver.com/downloads/ and download the driver installer. It´s a .exe-File that will install the needed drivers.
