I am considering upgrading my trusty Galaxy Nexus to a Samsung S5.
I am wondering how MPE works with the S5 and which version would be best to use. I sync contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes.
As I recall the best version for my nexus was not always the one on the main page but one with a link in the forum. I did a forum search on S5 and it did not return anything.
Also, what PC/desktop version for Windows 7 64 bit would be best?
If it is just the version on the main page and the app in the android playstore that it is easy.
Any hints when syncing for the first time?
Thanks,

One more question..... I do not think I installed a separate driver package for my Galaxy nexus. For the S4 (and I assume S5?) I see the recommendation to install ADB drivers and the Kies3Setup from the Samsung site.
Should I be doing this before I plug in the S5 phone or do I do this only if I have an issue?
Thanks,

First off I have an HTC DEsire HD so can't comment specifically but I weould first load the "default" released MPE products (client and phone app) and see what happens. I'd also use wifi (mainly because that's how I connect now and find it much more convenient) but if you need to use USB then a forum search for Samsung drivers should point you the way to go there.
But try it first .... |

AHHH! Makes sense. I use wifi now and don't plan to use USB so I should not need the drivers.
Yup, I'll use the defaults unless I hear differently from someone.
Thanks,

Hi,
Seems a few apps have issues with the GS5 (ES File Explorer is one I've noticed).
Somehow the file permissions have changed on the S5 and although most of the functions of MPE work fine.... anything related to the file storage on the external Micro SD card will fail. |

Thanks for that great info! So I guess sync should work fine.....
And if pictures are initially sent to internal memory those should backup okay. But if you do a custom copy to/from the memory card with MPE it will fail?
Does that sum it up?
Thanks,
Bill |

Hey K0T4K - what are your file access problems?
As it happens I can able to access the S5 storage via MPE and not via Windows Explorer.. |

Hi Bill. Correct. You can access files that are on the SD Card already & back them up (read function works fine).
SYNC is also not an issue that I've noticed. i.e syncing contacts, messages, outlook etc etc is all ok.
"custom copy to/from the memory card with MPE it will fail?" = Correct. I noticed I can create directories on the SD card using MPE but i cannot rename or delete it nor can I copy any files to it.
The reply email from ES File Explorer developers was:
"The android system 4.4 has changed permission of ext-sdcard
We are working on it and will find a solution asap" |

Hi norman1nz,
I can access the files and copy them from the phone to a PC vie MPE.
It's the write permissions that are the issue.
What error do you get when trying to access the files using windows explorer? |

@K0T4K: This issue is not related to the S5, its a general issue with Android 4.4. For all Samsung phones MyPhoneExplorer should work with the newest version 1.0.32 also when you want to upload files or folders. The only operation where i have found no workaround is renaming folders. |
