i have a Sony Xperia Z1 and since the latest update on 4.4.2 (build 14.3.A.0.757) MPE has lost the ability to write to the SD card (the real, external SD card mounted as SDCARD1, and listed as External Memory in MPE)
my card is encrypted, but the functionality was not there before I encrypted the storage card.
My phone connects to my PC (Windows 7 x64) as a media device, and I use a USB cable for syncing, and I can write to the SD card via the MTP service
So, is this google restricting access to the SD card? and if that's the case are there any workarounds for it?
**UPDATE**
OK, It's a 'feature' of Google 4.4.2 - permissions on SD Card write access is blocked for 3rd party apps.
more into here http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/03/20/before-upgrading-to-kitkat-be-wary-of-sd-card-restrictions/
So, other than rooting (which stops my banking app from working) are there any other options? |

Have you got the latest phone client update? In the changelog (from here ... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client ...):
Zitat: | What's New
- file access to external SD card for Android KitKat fixed again
- visibility bug fixed in "MPE Tasks" (scrollbar was over checkboxes on Android KitKat)
- some bugfixes in calendarsync
- new permission "BLUETOOTH_ADMIN", needed because a firmware bug in Android 4.2. MyPhoneExplorer Client will NOT discover and pair any Bluetooth devices automatically

Thanks for the suggestion.
I am fairly sure it's the latest version - Client Version 1.0.32
If i try to sync/create a file on the SD Card I get OBEX Errorcode: D0
I'll try uninstalling the phone client and installing again from the play store. |

I am also getting this error since my phone upgraded to 4.4.2. I am using the latest client on the laptop as well as the phone.
I was able to sync files earlier but now I am not able to do that. |

mine is still not able to copy files to the SD card.
Have you encrypted your phone's storage at all? My phones storage (including the SD card) is encrypted. While that shouldn't have any effect on apps running while the phone is on (and so decrypted) I am trying to figure out if there is any commonality that might result in this. |

Thanks, I was already aware of those changes. however, as an installed application, the MPE client should have write access to files created by it on the external storage (as I understand it)
The sync I use is to files created by MPE. |

It depends on the phone brand. I have found a workaround which works for many phones (Samsung, HTC,...) but this hack does NOT work with Sony Devices. If you find any third party app in the PlayStore which allows you to write on external card then please let me know. As far as i know there is currently no app which can do it with Sony devices. |

I can write to the external SD card via MTP and Mass storage, and it appears using Media Monkey (I assume over MTP?) I can sync my music files to the external SD card (\music, \mix and \playlist folders) but I guess that's not much help to you.
What's the workaround for non SONY phones? |

No, i would need the name a thrid party app which is able to write on the SD Card (f.e. ES FileExplorer or something similar).
The workarund for other brands is a known security leak in a system service of Android. Many app developers have adapted their apps to use this leak (but probably it will not work anymore in the upcoming Android 4.4.3) |
