Transfer MPE data from old PC to new PC (part 2)

Hi FJ, I read your reply to bjromaine on 23 April on the same topic.

I also have lots of precious data (from an old phone), thanks to MPE, is backed up in an old PC. Recently, the old PC started dying, so I urgently need to transfer them to a new PC.

I do not need to restore the old data to my current phone, just need to have access to the old data in my new PC.

I have latest version of MPE in the new PC.

I tried to "copy and paste" the dat files from MPE folder in old PC --> to the same folder in MPE in the new PC. But no listings, contacts, sms etc show up when I open the MPE program in the new PC.

**How can I transfer the backup data properly so that they will appear nicely in MPE?

I know I can open the dat files manually, but it would be nice to be able to access them through MPE interface.

I foresee that I will need to do this transfer every few years when I replace computers.

Someone suggested that I restore the old data from old PC to my current phone (which would override my current data), then back up again to MPE in new PC. Is this the only way?

Please advise. Appreciate much.

If you want to copy the dat files of MPE then copy the whole profile folder to your new PC, f.e. "Samsung I9000 [0123456789]". When you launch MPE then you should be able to choose the new folder from Menu-File-Users.

If you have already a real backup (*.mpb) then you can also import the *.mpb-File into MyPhoneExplorer instead of direct restoring. You can import the file in Contacts, Organizer and SMS-Archive (rightclick->Import/Export)
