Does Android 'do' multiple local calendars by creating a separate data file on the phone for each, or is it all one database, but viewed through different filters?

I ask, because after noting the Android Calendar can be rather volatile (to put it mildly) I am now using an app that can create backups of the calendar database and restore them, as needed. This is all done directly on the phone, in addition to what I do with MyPhoneExplorer -- which of course goes to the hard drive on my desktop PC.

I note, in the directory on my SD card, when I run the backup, there is one file created. So, should I be concerned, or does the single file contain everything? At the time of the backup, I had two local calendars in use.

There is ONE organizer database on the phone, each appointment has a regular id and also a calendar_id.
