Portable Version Questions

Thank you for having a semi-portable version (the user has to run an installer, but then can select Portable).

Is there a true portable version (no installer)? If not, would you consider making one?

Finally, what are the differences between the portable version and the non-portable version?

Hi,
one installation is correctly, but it is more of an unpacking.
you can copy the portable Version of a portable drive without installation

So, if I understand you correctly, to have a working portable version, you can just copy MyPhoneExplorer portable.exe, and the DLL, holidays, and languages folders. Is that correct?

You mentioned "Install without administration rights". By that, do you mean that the non-portable version requires admin rights during installation, but that the portable version will not require it?

Thanks again. I really appreciate your help. In the future, would you consider releasing a dedicated portable version in a regular .zip file? That would be wonderful!

Yes, you copy the folder "MyPhoneExplorer" including all subfolders.

It appears that in order to get the portable version you may have to run the installer for the the non-portable version for every MyPhoneExplorer release.

This is because it looks like makeportable.exe has to be run in order to modify MyPhoneExplorer.exe to make it portable.

Since MyPhoneExplorer is no longer supposed to contain any nagware or ads (right?), there should only be positives for releasing a fully portable version (no installer, no modifying the registry, no writing outside of it's program directory tree except when explicitly instructed by the user) with each release.

This will likely make users even happier, and may increase donations! Smile

I don't think its needed to host a seperate package. What is the positive of a second zipped package? It just means more handling, more versions and packages jumping around the net - and even more "special" versions (edited packages from other users/publishers without my permission). The setup package is signed and this means it comes from my PC - i will handle it like i did it until now.
