Long msgs sent in multiple parts (bug?)

Using nexus 4 and Hanscent SMS latest version.

If in front of my PC and need to send a long msg I usually use MyPhoneExplorr to type/send as much easier with a proper keyboard.

However, long messages seem to be sent in multiple parts - they appear as such in both MPE and also on the phone itself...

Any idea how to get around this?

I am having a similar problem.

Long messages - more than one SMS - will not send from the PC interface, although they can be sent from the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S3 flashed with CyanogenMod 10.2 / Android 4.3.

Mine sends fine - just in multiple msgs if too long. Same message is sent as one msg if sent from the phone itself.

PS: I am using Nexus 4, handscent SMS (latest version), and the standard ROM (Android v4.4.2).

Any chance for a fix for this?

Following on from my original query:

I have now managed to replicate the problem using both Handcent and Go SMS, which suggests to me that the problem is indeed with MPE, as the results were the same.

Below are screenshots of the problem:

http://tinypic.com/r/2h5r391/5
http://tinypic.com/r/2m6stw5/5

The msg in green is the message I sent to myself - sent in a single long message using MPE. In pink is what it looked like when it was received on my phone.

So basically it is sent correctly as it is received as it should, but apears in two separate messages.

Any chance of looking ino this please?

TIA.

Forgot to mention that it seems that MPE breaks the long msg sent to 160 character separate msgs.

Hi,

I have a related issue with SMS, but not being related to splitting a message in multiple parts.
Sometimes during the month I need to send concatenated SMS messages being longer than 160 char. Native Samsung Galaxy S4 mini limits a long SMS message up to 3 messages (160x3). Then, it forces it to be sent as MMS: this if you would type it from the device and throguh the stock SMS app.
As a valid solution I was able to solve this very dishonest limitation by using "Go SMS Pro". So far I was able to exceed more than 20 concatenated SMS (160x20=3200 char) reacing the recipient with one message + being properly charged for 20 SMS and not for 1 MMS from my phone carrier. So far so good.

I wanted to try MPE for the same project (as it is easyer to type on a PC) and performed a test sending a long 20 concatenated SMS message to one recipient. At first it looked ok and I had the impression that the software sent it using SMS. The recipient received a long 1 message. Just today, I discovered that I was charged for an MMS message.

I wish to ask the followings to better understand:
1. when MPE sends a SMS message is it behaving as an App on the phone (therefore sending the message by itself) using the phone only for the line or not? If not, what is MPE relying on for sending the message?
2. Is it possibile to request the developer to enable MPE to be able to succesfully send long SMS messages, without any char limitation and to be able to do so sendig also to a distribution list too, but making sure that the long message will be set as an SMS and not as a MMS?

thank you,
Spiro

I am having this problem too. If I send a long text message, it is broken into as separate massages. Been using your app of years and this is a new issue with last update. But could also be due to Kitkat?

I cannot be sure, but I am 99% sure that it has to do with one of the last Android updates.

I have exactly the same problem. Android 4.4.2 on a Nexus 4 and SMS's get split up into multiple if the are too long. This only appeared after installing 4.4.2 and not before.

On top of that there is now not a very good connection between smileys/emoticons in MPE and the native 4.4.2 messaging app, so if you insert a smiley in MPE, it appears fine on the phone, but if you insert a smiley on the phone, MPE might not display it. This is quite annoying, since it is impossible to see which that works, and which that doesn't.

I fix of some kind would be absolutely great.

Best Regards

I have been using MPE without issues but am now facing this same problem described here i.e. of the outgoing message being truncated (broken into multiple parts). I also suspect it is a problem with Android 4.4.2 as I started noticing it after the update.

I have 2 phones:

Phone 1: HTC One (M7) with Android 4.4.2 and
Phone 2: HTC One X with Android 4.2.2

When sending from Phone 1 (with more than 160 characters), the outgoing message is truncated/broken into multiple messages in BOTH the phone and on the MPE desktop app.

However, the message is received in Phone 2 as a single complete message.

I tested it in the reverse manner i.e. sending the same (>160 charac.) message from Phone 2 to Phone 1 and there is no problem.

Please help!

@SAngeli: There is no official way to control if the message is send as SMS or as MMS. I don't know how GoSMS is able to control this. In Android there is only a interface to send SMS. The conversation to MMS does happen behind the scenes.

@all: The issue with splitted multiple messages on Android KitKat is known. I have searched many hours for a fix but it looks not good. The only workaround is to set MyPhoneExplorer as Standard-SMS-App before you send a multiple message on this devices.

How do you set MyPhoneExplorer as Standard-SMS-App?

Any news on this issue? I just had to reinstall Cyanogenmod on my phone after it stopped booting (corrupt system files due to faulty battery crashing the phone), so I went for the latest stable using Android 4.4.2.
Not only do the messages get split up into 160 character messages, but MPE on the PC only displays the last part until you resynch. And when you do, the order is mixed up. My 6 part message reads 5-1-2-4-6-3.

I really hope this isn't something we're going to have to learn to live with :-(

But again, thanks FJ for all the awesome work you do on this software.

Solved my problem for now (amongst a load of others) by going back to Cyanogenmod 10.1 (Android 4.2)...

Its not possible to set MPE automatically as Standard-SMS-App (this is the sence of this new "security feature"). MPE could request the "Change Standard-SMS-App" dialog when sending multiple messages , like it is already now when you try to upload or delete a message throught MPE. But i am still not sure if this makes sense because single message texting still works without this setting. No user would understand why MPE does request it for long messages and not for normal messages.
