I just migrated my ROM to CM10 (Jellybean) and MPE works as expected except on the client. On the client, MPE no longer detects the local calendar, but Google and Exchange only. Since I don't use corporate exchange and I hate google calendar, I miss this option. Didn't know if you were aware of this new shortfall or whether you plan to fix this.

I tried the current Beta, http://www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk, and it has the same limitation.

AFAIK CM10 (Jelly Bean) doesn't have a local calendar so there's nothing to detect. You will have to use an app like aCalendar or Business Calendar.

I see. I assumed there should be one for two reasons. First, MPE sees a local database for contacts, as well as for google. Second, I use WebIS Pocket Informant (PI) and it shows a local calendar database.
Based off what you're telling me, I should assume that PI creates the local database itself. Is that correct?

A local contact database is available on Jelly Bean, but according to several discussions in these forums it looks as though you can't edit synced contacts stored in this database and, even worse, local contacts are automatically transfered to Google Contacts and at the same time deleted from the local database.

From what I read on PI's website I assume that this app uses a proprietary database ("Pocket Informant now supports multiple internal Event calendars, allowing you more flexibility than ever before to keep your Pocket Informant data separate from the native Android calendars if you wish."). It can also use (existing) local Android databases ("Ability to show/hide different Android calendars") but probably won't create one.

Since Android 4 its possible to create local calendars very easy, but not many apps does use this feature. I will implement this feature in the next version of the client, till then you can use this app which is not available in Google Play but it works: http://www.zoks.net/solutions/calendar-manager

You rock! That solution fits my needs.

I'm having the same problem. I've use MPE for over a year on my Samsung phone and had no issues. Now I've got a tablet running Jelly bean. I see the comment about zoks.net and the calendar-manager and I'll download and try that, but unless I've missed something, don't I need something equivalent for contacts? When I synced contacts, they all seemed to transfer fine. The next day when I resynced, MPE told me that 300 + had been edited (I force all updates from Outlook to the phone - don't do any updates on the phone / tablet). The preview showed that the contacts had become jumbled. I have a lot of Outlook contacts that are companies. The way I create these in Outlook is with a blank "Full Name" but with a Company name. Outlook automatically files this under the company name. This has worked fine on the Samsung phone. However on my tablet, it appears to match on name and so the 200 contacts with blank names get more and more jumbled on each sync.

Thanks for that. One thing though. They say

Switching of the calendar synchronization in the Android settings results in your calendar being disabled and thus invisible.

I haven't found this. I turn sync off and it just doesn't sync with Google any more, which is fine. However, the calendar is still there, usable and visible.

I cannot imagine that anyone who has been using MPE would think that file system access (as an example) is more important than calendar and contact syncing.

This afternoon I upgraded my new Galaxy III to Jelly Bean without knowing the disaster that awaited me: no calendar or contact sync! Since it's a new phone, I have no previous syncs to work with, and I have over 1,000 contacts and 6,000 calendar entries!

I'm happy to be part of a beta program, because this is a complete disaster for me. I have a brand new phone which is as useful as a brick: I don't know the numbers I need to phone or SMS, and get no reminders of appointments.

It can't be worse. As things stand, I'll have to go back to my 2+ year old Galaxy I in order to function. The zoks app doesn't sync contacts, so it remains almost useless.

Please help!

Not sure what your problem is if you've searched through the forums first. I'm running JB on my Desire HD. 4.2.1 at the moment but 4.1.2 previously and have had NO problems with MPE and/or syncing. Just set up your gmail account, let it sync once and it will create a Google calendar and contacts on the phone. Turn off the sync and you can then use MPE to populate the 'Google' calendar and contacts - no sync to gmail necessary.

The issue is that initial sync to google. I use my phone for business, so there is a lot in there that company policy (sensibly) dictates should not go into the cloud somewhere.

I guess I could sync once and then delete, but am concerned about the"you can never get off facebook" effect.

Again, thanks for the tip. Currently I'm considering rooting my phone to downgrade to its stock release ROM so I can continue to use MPE. That looks likely to be the safest.

When I first sync with Google I have NOTHING stored on their servers (my gmail email address gets forwarded to my real email - I keep nothing on their servers at all) and nothing on my phone. All that happens is that the google accounts are set up on the phone. As long as you sync before you put any company info on your phone all should be fine. If it's a company phone can you delete the contacts/calendar before the sync then reload afterwards?

If you're going to try this, first read through it slowly, and check if your set-up is different in any way. If so, think about why and what that might mean for you.

MPE saw that I had connected a new phone and asked what I wanted to call it. This then created a new user within MPE and a completely separate set of data files on the computer, relating to the new phone. This explains how I got the data from my old phone (Galaxy S) to my new phone (Galaxy S3), which I had already upgraded to Jelly Bean (4.1.1). I expect that if you follow these notes, you will get your data across as well.

1. Make a backup of your existing MPE directory structure. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7, so your directory locations may be different to mine.

In my case, I made a copy of everything under

C:\Users\<MyName>\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer

to

C:\Users\<MyName>\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer.0

That left me with two complete sets of MPE data bases. If I messed up, I could delete the messed up one and simply rename the .0 one by removing the .0 at the end.

2. Make a backup of your applicable Outlook .PST files. Their location depends on your versions of Windows and Outlook. You may have them stored somewhere completely different (as I have), so I can't help you here. Use Google.

3. I made sure the phone had no data, then synced to Google. Apparently this sets up on the phone the necessary phone data bases that MPE syncs to the computer. This is the last time I'll sync anything too Google with this phone, because I don't want any of my data there, plus may not necessarily sync everything (extremely large notes, etc.).

4. The next step was to copy the MPE data bases on the computer from the location for the old phone to that of the new phone. My two locations were:

C:\Users\<MyName>\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer\samsung GT-I9000 [<IMEI number>]

and

C:\Users\<MyName>\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer\samsung GT-I9300 [<IMEI number>]

I did not copy everything, as there were files and directories which contained setting which would be different for the two phones. Put simply, I copied all the .dat files EXCEPT settings.dat. In my case that meant these files:

Calls.dat
Notes.dat
Oraganizer.dat
Phonebook.dat
SMS.dat
SMSArchive.dat

The way I decided which (not) to copy was that I opened each file with a raw editor (one which doesn't try to interpret the data; in my case, vim).

I also did not copy the Cache and Sync Logs directories once I saw that they contained phone-specific data.

5. Having done all of this, I started up MPE and set my user to the OLD one (go to File : User). Then I went to File : Settings and made screen captures of all the settings. (I use Greenshot, which has a mode to capture only the currently active window.)

Once done, I changed user to the NEW user, and used the screen captures to make sure that everything was set up the same as previously. (You can use a raw editor to copy the relevant fields across between the two settings.dat files, but it increases the chances of you messing up.)

As an aside, if you have lots of calendar entries in Outlook (I had 9,153 when I wrote this), it will really help to specify both a time range to sync, as well as to sync only those entries which have changed. The initial sync will be slow, but thereafter it will be a breeze.

6. Once you are sure everything is working as intended, you can delete the old phone user from MPE. Just make sure that you don't have a Windows File Explorer open somewhere in the MPE directory tree for the old phone (see point 4).

First you need to change to the OLD user via File : User. Once you have selected the old user, go to File : User once more, and you will see a little arrow next to the old user's name. Click on it to expand and you will see "Delete user" as an option. Choose that, and you'll have an empty looking MPE. Your data is not gone; just change user to the new user, and everything will be working as expected.

- if your old phone is no more alive/present then unplug all other phones first
- select the old user in Menu-File-Users
- click on Menu-Extras-Create backup
- connect the enw phone
- click on Menu-Extras-Restore backup

When I first sync with Google I have NOTHING stored on their servers (my gmail email address gets forwarded to my real email - I keep nothing on their servers at all) and nothing on my phone. All that happens is that the google accounts are set up on the phone. As long as you sync before you put any company info on your phone all should be fine. Not sure what your problem is if you've searched through the forums first. I'm running JB on my Desire HD. 4.2.1 at the moment but 4.1.2 previously and have had NO problems with MPE and/or syncing. I haven't found this. I turn sync off and it just doesn't sync with Google any more, which is fine. However, the calendar is still there, usable and visible.

@HSutherland: Blank/identical contactnames should be no problem. Can you verify this issue and can you verify that it happens only on blank contact names ?

I think this calendar issue fits in here ... hope I have not overseen something important ...

I got a Galaxy Nexus with 4.2.2 (JDQ39).
I try to sync with thunderbird.
MPE alsways syncs my calendar from thunderbird to the goole calender "<Name>" instead of syncing with the calendar "local" (created with business calender app) although the sync should land exactly there:
MPE Client: Einstellungen -> "Zu synchronisierende Kalender" -> "local" (calandar "<Name>" is not marked!).

First: I don't want everything go to google.
Second: When I sync again, all the entries are set again in the calendar "<Name>" ... and again and again ...

Can anybody help me?
Is this a bug in MPE or did I oversee something??

I do not understand your problem. In the settings of MyPhoneExplorer on the client you have to mark ONLY the local calendar and UNMARK the Google calendar.

My DroidX hung and I had to do a complete factory reset. When I reinstalled MPE client I found that only my Google calendar allowed sync. The phone calendar only allowed 'visible' but no sync. I spent over half a day researching and trying different options including deleting MPE client and server. Finally, I came across a forum where a user posted that a recent Verizon update dis-allowed sync for the phone calendar. Following that thread I found quite a few upset Verizon users who had the same problem. Some of these users had phones other than the DroidX and calendar apps/widgets other than MPE. I doubt that creating a second user in MPE will solve the problem because the phone calendar is tied to the user 'DroidX'.

Result is that any event I add to the phone calendar only gets added to my Google calendar. I will not sync my Google calendar with Google because they already collect too much personal information. I can't get MPE server to recognize both calendars --- Google as well as phone --- so I can't sync events added to my phone with MPE server.

I'd appreciate if anyone has a suggested work-around.

I sync with the Google calendar/contacts storage on the phone BUT before I do I ensure that sync with Google on the web is disallowed. I also, usually (I've been flashing new ROMs a lot recently) use Titanium Backup to 'freeze' the Google calendar/contact sync apps. That way I ensure that all my information is held on my phone but is NOT transferred to the "cloud" ...
