Fails to sync Appointments

Verfasst: Do 1. Nov 2012, 18:31

After successful connects & syncs last week I'm now having some problems. The subject of this post is failing to pick up new appointments on the phone and put them into MPE and Outlook7. It connects and goes through the motions of preparing to sync, i.e., I see the progress bar, but then does not show any panel with new or changed appointments to be approved for syncing. The progress bar closes, and that's it. The new appointments do not appear either in MPE or the phone.

The settings are the same as I've been using.

I'll put the other problem I've had in a separate post.

TIA

Ed

Is MPE on the phone set to accept calendar and contacts from the correct account?

OK, I think I understand. After xxx settings when the MPE phone client is running, one of the menu items is Calendars to Sync. The two calendars listed are My Calendar and one designated by my gmail email address. I assume My Calendar means the one on the phone, and apparently the othe rone is my gmail calendar. The latter was not checked, since I don't intend to use gmail. Indeed, the main reason for using mPE was to avoid using gmail. However, I find if I also check the gmail calendar, then appointments from the phone get transferred to Outlook. Looks like they have to pass through gmail. Google wins. BTW, do they believe it's OK to mine my calendar to get marketing leads, like they do emails?

It does not mean anything goes through gmail, just that that is the calendar/contacts storage area used on the phone. Now you can set the phone up (settings/accounts etc) so that your 'google' account also syncs with the "cloud" - you'd need to set it up on the web like this also.

However, to set up the google storage areas on the phone, 'sync' has to be on when setting up the account - or 'sync'ed' at least once. I do this with a blank calendar/contacts then turn off sync'ing with the "cloud". I also delete any contacts/calendar items that do appear in my gmail "cloud".

After this you can sync locally using MPE to the 'google' account on the phone but nothing gets transferred to the cloud.

Does this help?

And if I don't want to even have my calendar in the Cloud do I have to? If not, why would there need to be a an area on the phone named with my Google account?

It helps, but I'm still a bit confused. Don't give up on me though.

If you are using Anbdroid 4 then you are able to create a local calendar with this app: http://www.zoks.net/solutions/calendar-manager

Thanks, but I don't think I have Android 4 since it's a Galaxy Fascinate. Strangely, it doesn't say what version it is using (or at least it's not under About Phone).

I did visit the above link and read what it had to say. I remain confused, since my phone DOES have a calendar, and I assume when you say "local calendar" you mean on the phone. Yet, what Calendar Manager offers to do is creat yet another calendar on my phone. I don't think I need that. As I see it, I have my good and true calendar in Outlook on my desktop, and whatever calendar is on my phone... the one under Applications, preloaded by Samsung I presume. That's all I need in the way of calendars, and I want them synchronized. That's what I am using MPE to do.

However, when I click on Calendars (not plural) on the phone calendar menu it lists 2: My calendar and one designated with my unwanted and unused Gmail account. Presumably the latter refers to a caleday on Google servers. If I check it, MEP will sync both ways... I can enter an appointment on the phone or Outlook and it will appear on the other after I do a sync. If I uncheck it I have a one-way situation. Appointmente entered into Outlook will appear on the phone, but those appointments entered on th ephone will not appear in Outlook. So it looks like Google is involved somehow, for reasons I can't quite understand. But then I'm kind of new to the smart phone scene so I'm probably missing something that's old-hat to the rest of you. Sorry...

I do appreciate the help.

If you select only your "My calendar" then you have to create the new events in your phone also in "My calendar", i think you did add the new events always in the Google calendar

OK, now I get it. In addition to selecting which calandar to sync in the MPE phone client I have to select which calandar to enter the appointment into! Thanks!

I guess if one could do without the Google Store there would be no need to sign up with Google at all, then I would not have Gmail or an unnecessary calandar. Hmmm.
