Contact photos - is there an answer?

Droid 4 running ICS, Outlook 2003

This is not really a MyPhoneExplorer issue, I now find out, but a serious IMHO phone issue. Google in ICS in their wisdom is using HUGE tiles with contact photos in them both in Favorites and in the contact detail (here cropped really stupidly, but that's google for you).

The bad part is it seems most methods of phone syncing transfer much too small images making them mush on the phone when displayed large. Reading about it here, I found out Outlook downsizes my images to 72x72, so I certainly don't want to get my photos from Outlook.

This would be a reason NOT to sync photos (I see a lot of trouble with this). If I go to the trouble to load photos on my phone directly I don't want them synced out of existence with Outlook's xxx images.

So in my opinion solving the photo sync problem with Outlook would include a please leave my photo alone option.

Did I read if there is no Outlook photo then a sync will leave the photo in the phone in place? If so, the answer is to delete all Outlook photos (OK with me, I don't care about photos in Outlook Contacts). That way all photos on the phone would be safe through updates of other information.

Yes, this is correct. And even when a contact is updated from Outlook to phone then MyPhoneExplorer will not overwrite the phones photo if it already does exist on the phone - exactly cause of the downsizing issue in Outlook. The next version will update the photo from Outlook to phone when the photo is visually diffrent.
