Contact synchronization bug

Hello

One strange behaviour in this topic: my first android device is my phone (Android 2.3.4), which I have synchronized with Thunderbird now for years. It happens the I simultaneously changed my laptop (Windows 7 64 bits) and got a tablet (Android 4.0.3). I installed Thunderbird on my new laptop and copied my mail folders from my old laptop to my new laptop. Thunderbird seems to be working fine. I installed MyPhoneExplorer on my new laptop, then synchronized it with my phone. I did not set it up to synchronize with TB at that time because I had forgotten to do so. Then I synchronized with my tablet. I saw that my tablet now has all my contacts, which is fine. Then I remembered that I must tell MPE to sync with Thunderbird so I set it up to do so. What is strange is that when I now try to synchronize my laptop with my phone, MPE announces it found that 76 entries should be edited, and 78 entries should be created. From those which MPE wants to create, he would create most of them in the phone, but quite a few of them in TB. The entries about to be edited are often completely off: As far as I can see, MPE is going to replace perfectly valid entries with others. This is probably why MPE then needs co create new entries to replace those he would have overwritten. I have a hunch that MPE uses an internal ID for contacts and that this ID is off. There was nothing obviously wrong with the synchronization of calls or SMS.

I aborted the synchronization of contacts. I have an idea: I could synchronize with my old laptop (Vista 32 bits), then copy the MPE folder for my phone from my old laptop to my new laptop. But I fear that doing so might trigger other issues, especially regarding synchronizing with my tablet.

Another sync software which worked on your phone/tablet did mix up all contact IDs. The only solution: Delete the user profile in MyPhoneExplorer so that all data-links are deleted. Then set up a new profile and start the sync again

Too late, I already "solved" my problem manually. But thanks for your answer, This may prove handy when in a few years I change again my main computer :-)
