I'm wondering if this is possible. I have an Optimus Slider and have gotten MPE to sync with my default android calendar nicely (using wifi), but unfortunately only through Google as a proxy.

Call me a tinfoil hat, but I really don't trust or wish my personal data to be stored and kept permanently by any 3rd parties...

In the calendar app on the phone, I have tried turning off sycing with google calendar. But as soon as I do that, the appointments all disappear and the phone will no longer sync with MPE.

Is there something or missing? Maybe an alternative calendar app? I tried Business Calendar, but it was no different. Any ideas? I'm not tied to Outlook... I'd be willing to switch to Mozilla Lighting or some type open source calendar server. Just need a simple sync between computer and phone, no Google.

Most of the calendar apps, such as Business Calendar which I use myself, read the internal Android calendar database, so it is only necessary to populate this. I sync only with Outlook directly to the phone via wifi. You just need to tick the correct settings in MPE and choose the right calendar on your phone. On my HTC that calendar is 'PC Sync', it may be different on yours.

Hi and thanks for your reply. On my phone the only calendars I see under "calendars to sync" are my gmail account, contacts' birthdays and events, and us holidays. I don't see a pc sync (or similar) option. Just these 3. For me it only works when I choose the gmail one, but then it's syncing with google calendar.

Could it be that I'm out of luck with this phone?

Hmmm. It's been soi long since I set up my phone that I can't remember if pcsync was there or I had to create it. Anyhow, look at Reply 5 here ... http://boardreader.com/thread/how_to_sync_Google_calendar_with_LG_opti_oewin__6b12c5d402b8bbdb.html ... it implies there is a 'phone' calendar on the LG.

Yes it does imply that for the LG One, but I can't find a phone choice on my phone anywhere. I have tried to manually add a sync account. But my choices are only MS Exchange, Gmail, Skype and a couple others that are from apps I have installed. I've tried in Android settings, and in the settings for the calendars on my phone... but nothing. It seems like my phone doesn't allow local storage only for the calendar. Wow.

Does anyone know how to bypass google on the LG Optimus Slider? Possible?

It is for sure possible. Active Sync (similar program to MPE, but uses only USB) installs small apk in android phone (accountXX.apk - XX depends on android version). The software provides new account service "Active Sync" which provides LocalCalendar. It's used exactly for the requested purpose - to store calendar localy only.

Shouldn't we ask MPE creator to add new feature to allow creation of local storage in case phone doesn't provide it? (Samsung, for one, provides Local Calendar preinstalled,). As a sponsor Smile I'm really looking forward to seeing such feature.

UPDATE1. : The software is calle Android Sync, not Active Sync.
UPDATE2: I forgot to mention that local calendar created by Android Sync is "system wide" and of course is fully usable as MPE events store.

I cant. There's no such SW. I made a mistake (it was too late). I meant android-sync.com.

I faced the problem after loading CyanogenMod 9 on Galaxy S2. No local calendar is available there.

Seems like there's a lot of info on how to create it in android:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/providers/calendar-provider.html#overview

Hi,
Let me extend this topic a bit. In configuration of MPE agent in android it is possible to set a few contact-accounts and calendars. That's OK. The problem is which one is chosen for synchronisation with Outlook. Dont you think is should be possible to set in configuration. E.g.:
* contacts A (Phone ore other local account) synchronises with Outlook's contacts (set by default)
* calendar X (local "no google" account) synchronises with Outlook's calendar (set by default)
* contacts C and D (e.g. google-type) synchronises with computer's MPE internal contacts (unset by default - android's MPE asks to set it after installation)
* calendar Y and Z (e.g. google-type) synchronises with computer's MPE internal calendars (unset by default, MPE asks to set it after instalation)

In result:
* I'm sure that contacts and calendars from Outlook are stored locally only
* I have all contacts (including google accounts) in MPE - which allows me to see all real names of SMS senders/receivers (both sent from/to "outlook" contats as well from/to "google" contacts).
* The denger of deleting all contacts/events from google account (or more dengerous - from Outlook), which happend to me in the beginning Sad, is less probable, as synchronisation is not "tripled" (Outlook<->MPE, MPE<->phone, phone<->google).

Don't you think it makes sens?

I will not make a multiple calendar sync with all details, there are already peoples wich asked for this but its complicated to setup for the user and also complicate to develop.

But i plan to add at least the possibility to add new calendars on the phone with MyPhoneExplorer Client

Actually, what I presented in previous e-mail was kind of "abstract" description, just to give my view of possible MPE extension. I agree it would be too complicated (and pretty useless) to implement all possible configurations.

I'm still convinced (and hope to convince you) that at least one think is worth to be considered. Let's suppose that
1) you implement possibility to create new local calendar (don't you think one is enough?)
2) user will leave default MPE setting for calendar synchronisation - all calendars to be synchronised
3) user will set synchronisation with Outlook's calendar.

For such scenario I don't have any idea how MPE will behave. What calendar will store Outlook calendar's events (and oposite)? With what will all other calendars be synchronised?

Don't you think that user should have at least tbe possibility to tell MPE to synchronise Outlook with calendar X (local calendar should be the default one). Or maybe it is already implemented in some logical way?

Still, I'm very impressed with your work and am looking forward (with one of my friends who also faced "google's nosiness" problem) to seeing at least local calendar being implemented.

thanks and regards

You can select which calendar should be used for new events in the client so you can already control where the Outlook-Items will be saved

I got it, thanks. For my case total separation of private (Google) and work (Outlook) calendars is easy to set-up by activating only one local calendar in MPE settings in phone.

My colleagues use "one-to-many" configuration (Outlook calendar being synchronised with all phone's callendars). They wish separate calendar existed in Outlook for each phone calendar. I warned him not to count on such feature to be implemented for the reasons you mentioned earlier.

Actually, there's another problem. I (hopefully not only me) also want to separate private and work contacts (having Outlook keeping only work contacts). It is easy to set in MPE, I know. But here there's problem of MPE's Messages functionality. Should I unset google contacts (not to be synchronised with outlook) they won't be downloaded to MPE either. In result I don't see names of SMS senders. Should I set it. I will have hundreds of google's contacts. 90% of them are people I never met - google collects all e-mails, including CCs and Froms. MPE gathers all contacts from google account, even those unmarked in phone's configuration to be not shown).

There's "Exceptions" in "Outlook settings" dialog where I can mark contacts not to be synchronised. This is perfect place to also (un)mark contact accounts (not) to be synchronised with Outlook.
I already feel warned that such functionality like this won't be implemented either Smile, but maybe this one makes sense for you (for sure it is not complicated for users to configure).

thanks again and regards
