Can I intiate a phone call from Outlook 2010?

Hi all, I googled and it seems that thanks to the outlook MPE addin I should be able to initiate calls from within Outlook (i sthere documentation explaining this BTW?). First the addin was not enabled, then I realized I had to enable it from the contact sync options. It now shows in outlook as being enabled.
However there is no context menu to call from MPE. If I use the default Outlook context menu it opens a lync window (useless as lync will not control my phone). Could this be reason why I can't initiate calls?
thanks!

Probably yes. The addin adds two new items in the contextmenu for contacts in Outlook. If this menu is replaced by another software/addin then the entries of MPE will be mising

Thanks for the response. I assume this is stored in the registry, if so, would you mind sharing the path of the key for me to manually replace the lync shortcut with MPE?

I don't think this has someting to do with the registry. I think you would have to disable the lync addin. Just to be sure: Do you see "MyPhoneExplorer" in the main menu of Outlook ?

Yes, it seems that the context menu gets completly replaced by Lync.
The addins are listed in the Trust center, there you can also disable Lync

thanks for the suggestion. I disabled all plugins and I still have the same behavior. Is there a picture on your web site showing what it should look like?

No, in this case i think Outlook has changed its contextmenu in general. As soon as i get Outlook 2010 in my fingers i will take a look at this issue.
To be sure: rightclick an existing person in the contactsview of Outlook. The screen looks like you opened a popup of a email recipient.

Here it is. Going to "Call" opens a Lync window

Aha, this sems to be the right menu. But the items of MPE are still missing. Do you see "MyPhoneExplorer" in the main menu of Outlook ? Is "MyPhoneExplorer" enabled in the Addins-List of Outlook ?

Yes, MPE is enabled, see:
Interestingly, this highlights a bug in the MPE integration. When the addin is enabled I am not able anymore to open the Calendar or Contacts in a new window by a right click at the bottom left, see:
The option is available but no window opens.
BTW, I tried disabling all other plugins but it did not fix the issue.
thanks for the help FJ!

FJ,
I have Outlook 2010 x64 and the MPE addin appears as inactive in the addin manager. If you try and enable it, it refuses to enable with no error messages.
I know from other addins like Plaxo, the 32bit version would not work in the 64bit version of Outlook 2010 until they updated the addin. May be there is a similar issue with MPE.
Regards
John

FJ,
No worries...
This function is not a high priority for me.
