help with connection with sony xperia ray

Hi guys, I'm having a load of problems just understanding what I need to do to connect my phone to pc and it be seen by the software on the pc. My pc is running windows 7. When I try and ask the pc program to find my connected phone it says its not connected. I'm attaching phone via USB for now. So trying to keep it simple. I need a step by step set of instructions on this I think. Phone is running ice cream sandwich, that in advance

ok have followed instructions in FAQ to where I have downloaded a DB drivers to pc. Now it says install these drivers. Where? There are no notes on how to do this. The files are sitting on my pc, assume they have to go some place. I followed the rest of the instructions in case all would work, but no. The pc app still can't see phone, please help

You did already enable USB-Debugging ?

Windows will ask for the location of the drivers when you pug in the phone.
