Hello, I have just started using MPE to import and sync my contacts/calendar between my MS Outlook and Android version 2.3.5 running on a Motorola Droid Razr. Most fields transferred over fine; I did have an issue with phone numers with the added 1+ prefix, but your current beta 1.8.2 seems to have corrected that.
I am also aware that while the current Android Contact and Calendar appdoes do not properly integrate the Birthday field, it IS copied over from the phone by MPE when synced. I then found several apps which do let me enter and edit the birthday fields on the phone and now have it doing what I want.
However, after syncing several times with MPE, I noticed that while new birthday entries I entered in Outlook would successfully transfer to my phone, birthday entries that I created on the phone, and ARE visible in the Android Contact list, did NOT transfer back to the phone.
So my question is : Is this "normal" behaviour, or does MPE not currently sync both ways for all fields it transfers from the computer?
Thanks |

The birthday field is fully synced both ways. Which date does MyPhoneExplorer on PC show in its own GUI ? |

Sorry, I must be a little dense, as I'm not quite following you
If I look at the the GUI in MPE, under the Phone contact list, there is a column on the right hand side labelled "Birthday". As I scroll down the list, contacts that I had entered birthdays for in my Outlook, also appear here. After syncing my phone with your most recent Beta, if I check a contact on my phone, it does display the birthday field. Using a little app called "Birthdays" on my phone, I can add/edit birthdays, and they too show up under the contact info in the default Android Contact app. If I add a birthday on my phone, when I sync with MPE, they do not show up in the MPE GUI, nor do they get imported into my Outlook.
Additional info :
After playing with it a bit more, I also noticed the following strange behaviour. Using a test contact, I entered a birthday in Outlook, synced my phone, and the entry showed up in MPE, and on my phone default Contact app. Double checking the validity of the birthday on my phone, I used an app called "Birthday", and an app called "GO Contacts" and the birthday field also showed there. I then EDITED the birthday for that record on my phone, changing the date by 2 days using the "birthday" app. This change was also reflected on the "GO Contacts", and default Android Contact app. I then resynced with MPE (which did show an altered record), and while the phone retained the altered birthday, MPE deleted completely the birthday for that record, and in Outlook, the birthday entry for that record is deleted also

Android version 2.3.5 running on a Motorola Droid Razr.
I am going to completely erase all data from my phone, reinstall MPE (latest versions) and resync and see what happens. So far, in no way have I been able to get the BD fields to sync the ways I "think" they should work, nor the way you say they should. I'll post results of this once done. |

I have figured out (mostly) what the issue is and I am pretty sure it is NOT entirely an MPE issue, but would like your thoughts and confirmation of this, and would also be interested if you think there is a "fix" that you could do.
Short update, I did wipe phone using latest MPE 2/2/12 and client 1.0.17 on android 2.3.5.
The problem seems to stem when I use the GO Contacts EX app after syncing my Outlook to my phone using MPE. While GO is able to read and modify fields such as Birthday and Anniversary, it seems to apply the updated record fields to the wrong "group" (which I will try to explain). I do not use gmail, but like everyone am forced to have a gmail account to be able to download apps from the marketplace ,but never use it. As I sync with MPE to my Outlook, I keep my contacts list "local" to the phone. After loading several other "contact manager" type apps, I noticed that some asked me when creating a new contact if I wanted it to belong to my "phone" contact list or my "gmail" contact list. So my suspicion is that the GO Contacts program saves the updated/added birthday fields to the wrong database? Or perhaps the record is malformed? It does not seem to do this with any other fields that I have tried (ie email address). It is strange however that all the other apps still are able to correctly read the birthday and anniversary fields, even after modified by the GO Contacts app, while MPE cannot.
I tried using another contact manager which can read/edit the birthday field, and when syncing using MPE it works exactly as it should (however, other parts of the contact program stink )
Hopefully you can understand what is actually going on from my poor descriptions, & so my final question is this: As it is possible for other apps to recognize the changes made to the birthday and anniversary fields for each record by GO, can you not do the same for MPE?
Thanks, and I appreciate and applaud your efforts.
Additional: just out of curiosity, I downloaded another Outlook sync capable program (dejavue) and it IS able to properly sync birthday and anniversary fields with Outlook, even the ones added/edited by Go Contatcs EX. But I would much prefer to use MPE |

Probably Go Contacts uses another format for the birthday (its a lack of the API, there is no standarized date-format). Are there any diffremces in format how they are shown ? |

I cannot reliably answer that question for you as, it may just be a formatting thing for display, but yes, the date does show up differently in the GO contacts program. While viewing a birth date in the default Contact app, a birthday will show up as 1970-07-18, while in the GO Contacts app, it shows up as July 18, 1970. But the GO contacts app gives me 7 different ways to display the date, so I have no idea how the actual date code is actually stored. But there is one thing that may be a clue. While the GO app gives me 7 ways to display a date, none of them are a choice that gives me July 18, 1970. Changing the date display mode has no effect on how the date in the birthday field is actually displayed.
While I am sure that the root of the problem stems from how the GO Contacts app monkeys with the Birthday and Anniversary fields date format, it is also strange how any other app I have tried still seems able to read this OK, and at least one other Outlook Sync program also can read it OK. It just seems that MPE is not reading it. However, as I have stated, MPE does work with other apps. |
