It depends on what you did. If there are no items in "MPE Notes" on the phone and you did a "Force phone -> Outlook" sync then the notes will be lost

FJ, the same thing just happened to me. I hit Shift+F5 to launch the multisync like I've been doing regularly in the past three years. However, today, after the sync completed, all my notes were gone, both on the phone and on the PC. And when I want to add/modify a note, I only do it on the PC.

I have a Time Machine-like backup software that saves, every hour, files of designated folders that have changed. To me, recovering any file in those folders is pretty simple. However, I need to know which folder or which files to recover. Then, and only then, I can chose to restore one the bazillion of versions.

I have looked in Users\<My user name>\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer. In the folder that bears the name of my phone, the only file I can find that seems related to notes is notes_metadata.xml.

Are the notes stored somewhere on the PC? And on the phone, where are those notes saved? I have some phone backups that contain the old notes that I really don't want to lose. If I knew where to look, that would help me. Thanks.

[EDIT]: Actually, I have just found the Notes.dat file in the last backup made at 20:00 today. So I restored it and the notes are back on the PC. However, when synchronized with the mobile phone, they don't show up in the MPE Notes widget. I'll edit this post to report on the sequel to this strange thing.

[EDIT #2]: I have removed the widget from the mobile phone's screen and added it back. No notes showed up. I have rebooted the mobile phone. Still no notes. I have modified the most recent note and sync'ed again. That note, and only that one!, is now also on the phone. I'm baffled. Does the synchronization attach a timestamp to each element? In all cases, is there a way to force the direction of the Notes sync to PC->phone like can be configured in the File sync scripts? I'm interested in uploading all notes from the PC to the phone.

This is what I did to have all notes back on my phone again: (I'm still using Android 2.3 on that phone) Menu > Parameters > Applications > Manage apps > MyPhoneExplorer Client > Clear data.
After that, a normal sync recreated all the notes.

My system is in French but I think the actual menu options in English should be close to what I stated above.

did you notice if the Notes were missing already before the sync on the phone ? It seems theer was an issue on the phone with the database. MPE thought you did delete the notes on the phone so he did delete also the notes on PC.

Just for information:
Restoring Notes.dat (or also Organizer.dat and Phonebook.dat) would bring back the data into MyPhoneExplorer. To ensure that the items in MyPhoneExplorer have sync priority select them->rightclick->Mark as edited. When you sync now then they should be restored on the phone too.

No, I didn't notice whether the Notes were missing before the sync on the phone. I was using Altaro BackupFS and that saved me: I just had to navigate back in time to a snapshot of when the folder had the missing files then I restored them.

Thank you for the "Force as edited" menu option. I didn't know it.
