I've had to reinstall MPE v.1.2 several times because of reformatting my computer and everytime, i would no longer be able to view the messages in my Archive (PC). I went to the MPE program folder and found a file called SMS but when i open it, it gives me a whole bunch of code which seems to be hexadecimal (i've tried notepad, xml editor, etc). I have also tried to rename it SMS.sms and import it to MPE but it says "the selected file contains no messages!".
I now know to export SMS and save as a textfile, but does anyone know how I can decode/view my older SMS messages? Thanks! |

hi,
I just happen to have learned that this code is called PDU (Protocol Description Unit)
maybe you can find some freeware for decoding ... |

If you copy the SMS.dat-File on the right place, MyPhoneExplorer will load it into the archive. |

I don't understand what all the users will do with the internal files of MyPhoneExplorer. You can export and import messages. Thats much better as to play around with the programfiles.
To answer your question: You will find the file in the Database-Folder of MyPhoneExplorer (take a look into the settings) |

All I want to do is read my old text messages that are encoded right now.
There is no Database Folder, all I have is a settings file, which is encoded as well:
Please explain what exactly it is that I have to do to be able to view my SMS.dat file properly. Thanks. |

Just load your phone (W800) into MyPhoneExplorer. Check Menu->File->Users |

I just downloaded v.1.5.7 and I loaded my phone into MPE. This is what I get when I choose File-->User...
Now what??
I don't know if you understand my problem or not...
I have 2 SMS.dat files. 1 recent one from when I LAST reinstalled MPE v1.2, and 1 old one from when I FIRST installed MPE. I CANNOT view these files as text because they are encoded in hexadecimal.
1. I tried to change my old SMS.dat file to SMS.sms and import it to the Archives(computer) and it said "the selected file contains no messages!".
2. I tried to copy the old SMS.dat file into the NEW database folder and replace the new SMS.dat file. I then refreshed the Archives(computer) and nothing happened.
3. I tried to right-click the old SMS.dat file and "upload to phone" but all that did was upload it to the "others" folder in my phone memory and I still can't read it
I've tried many things but still CAN'T READ the SMS.dat file as text.
Please give me DIRECT and EXACT steps on how I can read it. Thank you. |

- close MyPhoneExplorer first !!
- Open the current userfolder (C:\Documents and settings\[user]\ApplicationData\MyPhoneExplorer\[phone] [IMEI]\ )
- Backup the SMS.dat-File
- Replace it with the other file
- start MyPhoneExplorer
- now export the messages from the Archive into a common file-format |
