New User, settings not sticking

I am trying to set up my new Droid X. I have downloaded MPE on both my phone and my computer. On the computer, I am trying to change the settings for sinc from Only MyPhoneExplorer to Outlook. Every time I change it and hit OK and exit the settings; I go back in to see if it saved the changes and it shows Only MyPhoneExplorer again. I have no data entered in MPE so I'm afraid if I sinc, I will loose all of the contacts that I have stored in my phone. What am I doing wrong? Also, is there some sort of read-only file to teach me how to set this up properly? I am trying to learn about it by reading the forum, but I would like some instructions.
Thanks,
Randee

Did you try "download entire" in the contacts tap?

This might help! Try this to download the entire content from your phone and then try to change the settings!

But I am trying to download my Outlook contacts and Calendar into my new phone. I had them copy my contacts from my Blackberry at the store, so it should be the same as my Outlook. But, I need to sinc my Outlook Calendar into my new phone. If I sinc from my phone, it will wipe out the calendar on my computer since there is nothing on my phone yet.

ok, so you have NO contacts in your phone???

if so, try this:
1) DISABLE syncing with outlook in the settings
2) download "content" from phone via "download entire"
3) ENABLE syncing with outlook in the settings (now it should stay enabled!)
4) try syncing your phone with outlook!

I STRONGLY recommend you to backup your outlookcontacts before you try to sync this, since I have never synced my phone with outlook via MPE myself. I only use thunderbird!

You did not connect your phone and cause of this no userprofile was created. The sync-settings are saved per profile so you have to connect first the phone, then you can change the settings
