After reading a sms it is still marked as unread on phone

Hi,
This is on Android.
When having read a new message in MPE, I still have a notification on the phone saying I have a new unread message.
I am using Handcent as sms application on the phone, so this may have something to do with it?
HTC Legend (Android 2.1).

Sorry, its not possible in Android to control the behavior of external apps.

one question:
when you open handcent, but DON'T open the "unread" sms-thread, is it still marked as unread?
If so, then their might be a way to change it (cause handcent only uses the messaging data from the android messaging app). If not, then this problem is handcent (or "external app")-related and cant be changed!

When I open handcent, and I do NOT open en unread message, it is still marked as unread. And there is still a notification from handcent.
Is this something that can be solved?

ok to be clear:
you read the message in MPE, open handcent and the thread is still marked as unread (means its still in "bold letters")?
Can you open the android messaging app afterwards and look up, if its unread in this app too?

Here is what I did:
- 1. Received new sms
- MPE shows that I have a new unread message
- My "new sms" widget (not related to Handcent) on the phone shows that I have received a new message, but only for a second.
- Handcent shows I have a new unread message in the notification bar (and it does not disappear after a second)
- Handcent icon on my phone's home screen does not show that I have a new message (it does if the phone is not connected to MPE).
2. I read the message in MPE
3. The Handcent icon in the notification bar still says I have an unread message
4. I open Handcent, but the message thread is already marked as read
5. I open the standard HTC sms app and the message is also marked as read
I am not really sure what to make of this...

Ok, thats why i got that much into detail!
MPE marks the thread as read, and thats as far as it can go. The Handcent Notification cant be "erased" by MPE unless Handcent offers an interface for this... and I think this is most unlikely!
Sorry to say this, but MPE cant help you here.
Maybe you want to workaround this, by "disabling the handcent notification" and use the "new sms" widget which seems to re-check if the sms is already read! Otherwise you might write to the handcent developer to implement this in handcent too.

Yeah, guess the Handcent guys will have to look into this.
There is still one problem though. The "new sms" widget only shows a new message has been received for about a second - even though the message has not yet been read en MPE. I believe this must be a bug in MPE (or the client).

For this, it would be nice if you can post a debug log and tell in which time window it shows the "new sms". I guess it really is marked as "read" and then the widgets "deletes" the notify!

@ped: For information: The message in the database of the phone is set to read as soon MyPhoneExplorer reads the message. It keeps the unread-flag in MPE as soon you read the message there

@FJ Not sure I understand what you mean by: It keeps the unread-flag in MPE as soon you read the message there
Anyway, wouldn't it be more correct behaviour not to mark the message as read in the phone until it is marked as read i MPE?

This would be more correct, but also more difficult to handle

Thanks. I will see if I can get Handcent to make a modification

Well -handcent never really writes anything in the forum, so at this point no solution.
But - after using the program for some time, it is not a problem, that Hadncent keeps the notification in the top.
My problem is actually some different.
When ever I get a SMS I load it into MPE on the PC.
I do not touch the phone.
Next SMS arrives, I get this one over as well AND I get a copy of the last. Both on the phone and on the PC.
Once I go into Handcent everything is marked as read, and the handcwent notociation goes away when I read any SMS.
My solution at this point is to close MPE on the PC after use. This solves every of the above problems.

did you try to disable the handcent notification and enable the notification provided by your android system?

I have just tried to disable Handcent notification.
As of now I do not get any notifications on my HTC Legend whatsoever, and I had my friend sending me some SMS.
MPE running all the time.
Senario.
Friend sending 1 message.
It arrives.
I reply. I gets send.
He replys.
I receive his reply twice!
And herefter I receive every message twice.

I have not (yet) tried to disable notifications in Handcent, but I just want to chime in and say that I also experience the same problem with messages arriving twice...

may you please post the debug log! This might help FJ to find the problem!
do you get the message twice in handcent too or is it just in MPE?

I get the message twice both on the phone and in MPE.
How do I find the LOG file?

you can find it in:
%appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer\
(go to "start-> run" or similar!)
