I have an HTC Evo with android 2.2 and when trying to connect it displays error "Phone could not be identified" I'm running windows 7 pro 32 bit

EVO 4G Won't recognize.

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

In case of USB:
Did you enable USB debugging?
(it's also possible to choose "HTC Sync" when you connect your cable)

Same problem here. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit trying to connect to EVO 4G with Froyo 2.2. Get the same error message trying to connect via USB with USB debugging enabled.

First though, another piece of information. The MyPhoneExplorer client on the EVO states that it recognizes "USB cable plugged in". I am trying to connect as either "HTC Sync" or "Disk drive". Neither of them works.

Looks like you wanted me to just install this over the existing version. This install package doesn't contain all your other files for the app to work. So I reinstalled your original and had the debug version overwrite the according files with your changes.

Now, after running it again and having the EVO set to connect as "Disk Drive", the first pop-up window called "New user" came up with the following

Then, after entering a name and selecting "OK" everything connected, the syncing started, and it pulled in my contacts.

Good news, the phone now is recognized and the MyPhoneExplorer app can connect to my phone.

I haven't tested everything, but here is something I came across:
1. When you click on "Memory status" under "Other" on the left hand toolbar the Phone Memory is displayed correctly, but it doesn't show my connected MicroSD card. All it shows is a blank entry for "Memory Stick".
2. When you click on "Memory status" under "Other" under "View" from the top menu bar, the whole MyPhoneExplorer crashes and closes without any error message.

This might require another thread, but since it is possibly only related to this debug version, I didn't want to cause confusion with your regular version.

Otherwise, I really like what I see. It is great to find so many useful tools bundled into one application.

Well, this is interesting. Today the scenario 1 from is working, it is showing now beside phone memory the microSD memory labeled as Memory Stick when xxx on Memory Status on the left hand toolbar. Maybe because I rebooted the EVO a few times since yesterday due to cleaning up some apps, that might have cleared things up.

On the other hand, scenario 2 is still showing the same behavior, crashing the app when selecting Memory status from the top menu toolbar.

Today I connected the HTC Evo in the mode "Charge only" and was happily surprised it connected fine with the app. That is how I captured the debug log below. I also repeated the steps with connection "Disk drive" and got the same behavior.

Here is my log. I start out opening the connection, open Memory status from the left hand toolbar, which works, then last click on the Memory status from the top menu bar, as described in scenario 2. Then the app crashes.

If Windows has access to the SD-Card (Disk-drive mode) then the phone has no more access to the card. And cause of this the memorystatus does not work in this case.

Just updated both the client and PC software. Now I can not connect to my phone from PC. HTC EVO on sprint network (was able to connect previously before updates).

MyPhoneExplorer Client is launched and reports that USB cable plugged in. I can use Window's Explorer to view, transfer files, etc.

USB Debug is on. USB connection set to Disk Drive. Everything indicates it should be able to connect - but it will not. Host software says No device attached to USB - I've closed and restarted software to no avail.

Your problem has nothing to do with the versions of MyPhoneExplorer or the client. The phone gets not recognized in your PC as Android-Composite. This may have two reasons:
- USB-Debugging is not enabled (but you did already check this)
- or there is something wrong with the ADB-Drivers on PC

Do you see any marked entrys in devicemanager after you connected the phone ?

You are correct. Device manager shows problem with ADB drivers - dirvers for this device are not installed - it appears the only way to get those drivers for Windows is to install the Android SDK - can that be true? http://d.android.com/sdk/installing.html

Does everyone on Windows have to do that to use MPE?

The drivers will also be installed with HTC-Sync.
Please take care that HTC-Sync is not running at same time with MyPhoneExplorer.
