Hi guys,
I am using ubuntu 9.04 and successfully installed MPE 1.7.2 under wine. I used sputnick's script, but adapted the MPE version...
I did not use the bash script to start MPE, but manually connected my phone with my ubuntu machine using the bluez bluetooth GUI.
After this, I manually gave root rights to /dev/rfcomm0 by typing in a console
I did this since I experience some difficulties with rights in the past.
After this, I was able to connect MPE to my Phone (C702). I was struggeling with this for several days with ubuntu 8.10, but I didn't get it to work. So I suggest upgrading to 9.04!
However, whin I try to syncronize, I get the following error:
Obex protocol could not be initialized!
OBEX Errorcode: 00 - Phone didn't answer
Is there someone with similar problems?

@taff,
the main script is only to install, and @ the end, that makes another little scrit to launch MPE ( MyPhoneExplorer.bash )
@MPE staff
The problem for me is SMS, because when I try to read one of them, MPE crash all the time. Maybe anybody from MPE staff will know why. I reported what's happen ( + debug text ) here :

He guys, I recommend using wammu, it's very simple to run/configure and that works well ( I use a SonyEricsson W810I ).
Take a look there :
http://wammu.eu/
That's the most reliable solution I ever seen.
All the features works ( including sending SMS )
Thanks

Thanks weinbi.
i had been running xp in virtualbox so that i could use MPE in linux (and also gtalk).
I'll surely giv it a try and will post my results.
Also 1 more thing, dont get me wrong here.
can you make MPE opensource FJ. in that case people who are good with VB ( i assumed dat from the post that MPE is developed with VB) and some programming in linux can port it to Linux ( natively, not with wine ). This is merely a suggestion. or you can just find some one who is good with programming in linux and ask him to port it without making it open source(if u dont want it to be so)

The main problem is, that you have to rewrite the whole code. I asked FJ two years ago - at this time MPE had already more than 55.000 lines of Code (but there was e.g. no support for symbians,...)
And MPE will not be open source until FJ lose interest in this project. (You are not the first one who asked this

)

But don't forget: If anybody has real interest i promised to help (now about 89.000 lines of code

I have installed MPE succesfully with the script in de topic start.
After installing MPE started. I have only one problem; i cannot make a connection with my K810.
I will get the following error: COM1 could not be opened. Port cannot be found.
http://img510.imageshack.us/i/schermafdrukerror.png/
I have tried several COM ports. With or without: Stable connection It makes no sense... I've manually set it to COM1, 115200, stable connection but it wont work
OS: Ubuntu 9.10
Could someone help me to solve this problem?
EDIT: I have solved the problem. Making a connection is now possible...
ln -is /dev/ttyACM0 com1 has solved the problem (I think)

Hi guys, I have been reading this tut, but cant get it to work, ...
I get it to program running but, no ports available how do i fix this?

You have to enter the ports manually into the textfield / dropdown list. If you followed the tutorial, you have created a link from the device to a wine com Port, it was something that started with
Just write the port you selected there (e.g. com1) into the textfield.

I did all that... but there are some things i didn't get really. Do I have to connect via search for device? Because if I press that button there is still no ports detected, if I just press a sync button with stable connection option on i get error message; Set connection-string failed, without it is; can not recognize cellphone.
I'm pretty sure i have done all the things according to manual, well at least MPE is running...
And what about BT manager? I have BT applet 1.8 by bluez, do i have to manually enable com ports there or even make a connection via BT applet? rfcomm.conf file, whats the deal with the channel there, what means that number? is it necessary that is called example connection and connect @ start up its have to be yes, right?
thanks in advance!

You cannot find the phone, so search for device will never be successfully. You should write the correct com port into the textfield, say okay and connect (menu -- connect).
Hm... As far as I can remember, the channel says which protocoll is used. I think Channel 2 was serial port emulation. So you don't have to manually enable com ports.
It doesn't matter how it is called!
Sorry, I'm not sure if the bind at startup point is important...

I can't find the wine version any longer on this site.

The normal official setup can be used in wine, so there is no special version needed
Buttons won't work

Thanks in advance

I'm using 1.8.0 - works except the buttons as mentioned above:
Have you tried these start options
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="oleaut32=n;rpcrt4=b,n" wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/MyPhoneExplorer/MyPhoneExplorer.exe
