MPE bluetooth issue with Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) devices

Hi FJ,

Of late almost all new android phones are coming with Bluetooth 4.0 Stack (also known as BLE). This specification doesn't support Serial Port Profile (SPP) which MPE uses in bluetooth connection mode.

Hence I'm not able to use MPE with bluetooth now with my Jellybean phone. Do you have a plan to support BLE in future?

I thought all Bluetooth 4.0 devices are backward compatible to Bluetooth 2 and 3 ? MyPhoneExplorer works throught Bluetooth with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and as far as i know this phone has already BLE.

Yes, Bluetooth 4.0 is backward compatible with all previous BT specifications. You can refer this table in this blog http://wistao.blogspot.de/2012/09/comparison-of-bluetooth-different.html

But not all 'profiles' are supported. Serial Port Profile (SPP) is no longer a part of standard BT 4.0 BLE specification. I guess Galaxy S4 has some custom implementation. Standard devices with Bluetooth 4.0 do not support SPP out of the box, so MPE cannot find these devices on BT.

Backward compatibility means that all features of "old" versions are still alive. Maybe SPP is not possible in Bluetooth 4 but i do not see a problem here. Based on backward compatibility the connection is build with a older Bluetooth protocol.

- Please launch MyPhoneExplorer on the phone
- make a new pairing with the PC
- righclick the device in the Bluetooth-Environment of the PC, click on "Properties" and then on "Services"
- then post the logfile here
