No sms receipt deliverd to phone if sms sent with MPE!

Beitrag von AlienDroid »

This might be a feature of the software but I have by default my sms's I send using my phone I get receipts back so I know when someone hasn't turned their phone on and not got the tx message etc!

But if I send an sms using MPE on my PC the phone doesn't get the receipt!
I do get a pop-up in MPE at the time, but if I check the sms list I can't see a receipt status! Does this exist?

Phone; Blade/Orange San Francisco
Firmware; GRJ22
MPE 1.8.4
Connection auto; I almost always use Wi-Fi.
Client 1.0.23
PC OS win XP sp2

Thanx in advance for any help or info with this problem..

I have exactly the same problem and it makes MPE largely useless, because I absolutely need delivery reports for all my messages.

The only PC->Android SMS app that supports delivery reports I found was EasySMS. But it works quite slow

You have to turn on receipts in the phone. Android: SMS | Settings | Delivery report

At what time do you get the pop-up and what does it say? (screenshot)

This is not the issue with SMS program. I receive delivery reports if I send an SMS manually from the phone, or using EasySMS android app (connecting to it from the PC), but SMSes sent by MPE, or AirDroid, or Mighty Text just don't get any reports.

I do have receipts turned on the phone and I am getting them if sms's are sent directly from the phone! I did state this in my first post here!

I'll attach a screen shot later when I get a chance. Basically I get a pop-up box saying message delivered but will attach an image to this post later today.
And also to ask again, is there a receipt list I can view for sms's in MPE?

Exactly!
This is an MPE issue not a phone app problem IMO!

In answer to your question I've attached an image of the pop-up for sms receipt!
It appears just after the pop-up that states "Send messages" that gives a quick overview of; Recipient, Number, Status. As soon as this closes the "Message delivered" pop-up appears! see image below..

To be 100% clear.
Receipt request is turned on the phone and works when sms are sent directly from the phone.
When I'm sending an sms via wi-fi from MPE I only get the pop-up within MPE, and the usual sms receipt doesn't get updated on the phone.

The other question that I need answering; Is there a receipt list I can check within MPE?
The pop-up works but if I need to prove receipt of sms's sent I have no apparent way to do this if the message was sent with MPE?

PS. I can't see an option to attach an image now in this thread, I assume too much time passed from original post!! will try to upload and link to it here later.

I tried already to implement the delivery reports for the messages on the phone but i had no luck since the SMS database is undocumented at all.

But i'll contact the author of EasySMS, maybe he will help us in this case.

After several hours hard work...

I did not contact the developer of EasySMS cause i found a way to fix this problem. MyPhoneExplorer does this job even better than EasySMS cause MPE does also save the time of delivery (ICS and newer)

The changes in detail:
- while a message is sent then its also shown in the sms app of the phone as "Sending"
- if the send operation fails then the SMS is still stored on the phone - with "Failed" flag
- when "Request status report" was selected then MyPhoneExplorer will flag the message on the phone as transmitted

You will have to update both packages.
On the PC: http://www.fjsoft.at/files/MyPhoneExplo ... Update.exe
On the phone: www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

Please test if its working cause - as i said - the sms-database is undocumented and i had to realize it with alot of try&error.

This is good news. However, I have not tested it yet.

Nonetheless, I have to add that the time of delivery is not dependant on desktop application, but on SMS application in the phone. Stock Android app does not store information of time of delivery, however GoSMS, for example, does, and GoSMS + EasySMS tandem is what I have been using so far.

If that function works well now with MPE, I may well switch completely.

The only thing I would now miss would be linux support. Right now, I have to run windows virtual machine to use MPE, and that's a bother.

FJ many thanx. I'll have a bash at this a bit later and let you know the results on my Blade.
BTW, I do actually run the basic android sms and Handcent at the same time and like the OP said it doesn't seem to give delivery reports.
But Handcent for me at least does store the date and time of all sms delivered. That's when I think the small blue circle turns green with white tick inside etc on delivery!
Selecting that next to the message in question gives the date and time of delivery just in case that helps anyone that hasn't used Handcent.
BTW; I already get a failed flag in Handcent if it fails to send.
Many thanx for the hard work, will update and feed back results later today.

It worked!!!
The SMS delivery notification is indicated in the Handcent application for the SMS sent by the desktop using MPE. Was missing this since very long.

Well I tried it yesterday and it was working with Android 4.0.2 (Galaxy S2) and today after updating my phone to 4.2.2 it is again not working anymore. No more delivery notification icon on the phone messages confirming the delivery. This feature is so important. Hope it will be working on 4.2.2.
Also the speaker on option will dialed calls is also not working now.

I can confirm it is still not working. I am on Android 2.3.7 and there is no reports of any kinds. The only SMS ap I have installed is GoSMS.

Hi FJ
Just got around to trying your latest updates!
The good news;
Handcent now shows the icon colour change for delivery of sms's!

The not so good news;
On the phone, the sms Report shows the name and Status: Received
But unlike sms's sent directly on the phone it doesn't show the date and time of delivery!!

I think I can live with this as I didn't have any status before your latest update, but it would be good to have the date and time info also?

MPE on PC;
I still get the pop-up, but I still don't see any sms receipt info once that pop-up has been closed!
Is it possible to implement a new column to the right of "Time" that lists all the actual sms delivery times so these can easily be checked against the sent times?

Or if not possible, can the delivery info be displayed as the sent info is currently when you right click a message and select "Properties"?
Cheers.

I was wrong. The SMS delivery notification did not work – not because of the android upgrade – cause it works on one PC and does not in the other with same phone with upgraded androis. Both PCs were updated by same MPE (for windows) update/patch. Delivery notifications were requested. Anyways, I think I need to do some more testing and will report the results later.

I tried the behaviour on my Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.1.2 and on a HTC Desire with Android 4.0.4 - on both phones it worked. MyPhoneExplorer does operate only with the native sms database. Maybe there are Handcent or GoSMS do store their own delivery report in a seperate database - this is not interesting for me so if you test then with the native SMS application.

@AlienDroid: As i said above: The delivery date can be stored on Android 4 or above - and NOT on Android 2.3.7

@lockheed: Ensure that you requested delivery reports in the GUI of MyPhoneExplorer

You mean on the PC or Android Phone? Cause I found nothing like that in the PC program.
