Outlook 2003 sync problem with phone #s getting a + added
Whenever i sync my phone contacts with outlook 2003 some phone #s show a + in front. so if the phone # in outlook was (201) 234 - 5678 it now will be +2012345678. it may be something easy that is causing this but im not able to figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Please check if a country is selected in Control panel->Phone and Modemoptions->location . If there is no location set then create a new location. Outlook uses this setting for interpreting numberformats.
If this does not help you have to explain me the behavior a littlebit more exact.
- how ere the numbers before in Outlook and in phone (give me a valid number and xxx the last three digits)
- what is done throught sync (is entry moved from phone/mpe to Outlook or from outlook to phone) ?
- how are the numbers are displayed after sync in the phone and in outlook

Ok thanks for your reply. I went into control panel and checked my location and it is set for united states. I also have my local area code listed in there (973). the best i can describe is this way. Before i tried to sync i made sure that all phone #s are normal on both phone and outlook. So all phone #s dont have any + in them. But MPE reads some #s with a + from outlook even if in outlook there is no +. I took a screenshot of both Outlook and MPE open with the sync window showing the error read of one of the #s. Take a look at the contact "Anthonys Tires" in outlook it shows the phone # normal and MPE reads it with a +. look here: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1227340/mpeoutlook.gif
UPDATE:
OK i just did a both direction sync but i told MPE to only use the contacts in the phone as they do not have + in them. after the sync completed i clicked to sync again and the same contacts show to sync again and the same "Anthonys Tires" contact in outlook as i mentioned above again reads with a + by MPE. Also the contacts that i asked to sync previously are showing in the list again to sync. Something is really wrong here and i dont have a clue what.

For (973)... i understand the behavior. +973 is also i valid countryprefix so MPE thinks the number in brackets is the country-prefix. But this would not match for 201.
Anyway - i implemented a new filter. If the number is formatted like (###) ### - #### Then MPE never adds a + cause this numberformat is basicly used in US. Please download the current beta and test if it works.

ok this update helped with part of the problem. is there a way of making MPE not add the + to any of the the phone number entries? because here in usa and im sure canada also the + causes the phone to give error when dialing the number that contains a +.
Im still getting a + added to 2 contacts. those have a number that is long and has a p (pause) added to it as it is a call that i dial with a international call company so it doesnt cost me much to call canada. this is what happens:
my phone dials a local number (973) 783 - 8989 then i make the phone pause by adding a p to it so it can accept my international canadian number (416) 989 - 0297 so the whole # looks like this in the phone and outlook 9737838989p4169890297
I have tried to add 2 p but the same happens.
here is an example: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1227340/mpeoutlook2.gif
this is the same for both "Call Kris Swiader" entries. Maybe you can add a filter to not ad any + for anyone using the MPE software in usa and canada? i think it could eliminate any problems in the future as our cellular phone companies do not use + in any numbers.
Thanks again.

I think the problem is reading the outlook entry because when MPE saves the entry outlook shows it normal. I tried it making sure that before i sync there is no + in outlook and no + in MPE. but MPE sees the entry in outlook with a + and then adds a + to the entry in MPE. If i save the phone # without + to outlook then MPE shows it with a +. so saving to outlook is fine but reading is causing a problem.
