W810i connects but nothing happens on transfers

I believe my phone is connecting, but nothing happens when I click the blue yin-yang arrows sync button in MPE. I've tried connecting both through cable and bluetooth. My computer recognizes the phone, I have Sony's program installed with drivers, and MPE shows "disconnect" under F1, so it seems I'm connected. When I click on the sync button under somthing like messages or contacts, the status bar comes up, it says it is receiving, and then it just completes as if everything worked, but no messages are shown on the screen and it says "0" on the bottom. I believe sometimes it instead gives me some kind of "Obex" error.

I was wondering if I was really connected, so I tried the F2 and clicked for it to search for phones. It then tells me it can't find one and I should try replacing my battery, etc. But I think I'm connected actually.

I have the latest version of MPE (1.6.7 or 1.6.8 I think).

I think I'm in phone mode, because that's what Sony's program thinks when I start it up. So, what am I missing? Any ideas? I mainly just want to download messages to my computer so I can keep them and be able to receive new text messages (there's not much room for text messages on the w810i for some reason. Plenty of room for everything else.) Thanks!

This was after I first tried to connect with F1 -- it said it couldn't. Then I tried in F2 to search for the phone, and it said it couldn't find it. But then when I press F1 again, it only gives me option to disconnect, so it seems like I'm connected...?

You are not connected.
It seems that the drivers for your phone are not installed or you didn't choose "Phone mode". And read the FAQ

I thought if Sony's PC Suite was installed from the disk, then the drivers were installed? And PC Suite says I'm connected in phone mode. Is there something I have to do in MPE to change to phone mode too?

Thanks, I tried the USB cable again, and it works when I search for phone using F2. Not sure why it didn't work that way before. Thanks for the help (knowing I wasn't actually connected was very helpful).
