Environment:
MPE v1.9.0
Windows 10
Three Android phones
Use case:
I'm typically just sync'ing small batches of Contacts between various Android phones and an Outlook 2016 Contacts database.
Hangs and crashes are frequent, occurring almost every other run of the app. It occurs when sync'ing Contacts, or when switching phones. When it hangs, it becomes necessary to End Program, and restart it. Otherwise it crashes. MPE never performs more than one operation without hanging or crashing. |

Any ideas?
Is there something I should be doing differently? (Run as Admin, set certain environment variables, etc?)
Is there something in the program settings I should change? I really haven't set it up much - just using mostly stock settings.
As I said, the issue is nearly constant - i.e. I can only perform between 1-3 operations before MPE hangs and must be forced closed (or just crashes) - usually when syncing contacts with Outlook, although that's all I really use MPE for. |

When the PC has the DBCS Mode enabled then you might have those problems.
Please post the logfile directly after you launched MyPhoneExplorer: Menu-File-Settings-Show logfile |

Hello, and thank you for taking time to help with this.
Where would DBCS Mode be enabled? If you're referring to internationalization/language settings, Windows is configured for US English.
I couldn't find an option to attach files, but Debug.txt is not that long, so I've posted it below instead of using pastebin. As requested, it was captured immediately after MPE was launched. Note: the line starting, "09:54:10.02," was split by me, as it made the page too wide.

No, the "DBCS Mode" doesn't seem to be your problem!
"Machine works as Double-Byte-Character-System!" should appear in the log file => https://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?p=30056#30056 |

Okay, so if DBCS is ruled out, do you have any other ideas on what the problem could be? |

Any ideas at all? Can you at least offer some ideas on how I could troubleshoot it?
Could it be a bluetooth or wifi driver issue on the system? (I'm just guessing at what could be different. There are also some older BlackBerry components installed.)
I have noted that a hang occurs most often right after a sync of Contacts. And it appears to complete the sync, but then it hangs at the very end, and I have to End Program. Upon restart of the app, I sync again to check if it finished, and indeed there's nothing to sync, so apparently it completes the sync before hanging. And perhaps there's some handshake that isn't occurring at the end? |

I believe I've discovered where the issue lies, as well as the cure:
If I manually launch the client on both phones first, then have MPE sync the Contacts on phone #1 to Outlook on the PC, then switch to phone #2, and try to sync Outlook to that phone's Contacts, MPE will often hang or crash. (Presumably, you can reproduce the problem if you have multiple sync points to test with.)
However, if I just click Sync in MPE, without the client running on either phone, and just let MPE initiate the client from the PC, then MPE doesn't hang or crash during any sync. (I didn't realize that I didn't have to manually initiate the client on the phones first... that MPE could take care of that.)
So technically there's a bug because it shouldn't make a difference how the client is initiated, but of course it's quite minor. |

I cannot confirm the scenario you describe.
It is also illogical that the sync was correct implemented despite the cancel and the type of connection should have something to do with it?!
Please test this again by deliberately taking a break of about 30 seconds when changing the phone |

Pausing before switching phones didn't make a difference.
Also, crashing does still occur on the 2nd or 3rd sync operation. So after 1-2 syncs, I close and re-open the app to avoid the crash.
Is no one else reporting anything like this? |

Did you update MyPhoneExplorer to Version 2.0 inbetween? If no please install the official Version 2.0: https://www.fjsoft.at/download.php?id=1
Then install the current beta so that we have the same codebase: https://www.fjsoft.at/files/MyPhoneExplorer_DebugUpdate.exe
Now use MyPhoneExplorer as regular, and when you get a freeze for 3 Minutes or a crash then send me please the logfile via email with a link to this thread. In this case you have to open the logfile manually BEFORE you restart MyPhoneExplorer. Windows-Key+R -> %appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer -> You should see now the file Debug.txt |

To answer your question as to whether I had updated MPE to v2.0: Yes.
I have also now installed the beta you linked to.
After installing the beta, I launched MPE, performed a sync of Contacts between one of my phones and Outlook, and when the progress bar appeared to reach 100%, the app hung, (at the progress animation repeating.) I waited for ~5 minutes, then clicked the 'X' icon to close the progress bar. The usual dialog box appeared about the app not responding, and I selected the option to end the task. (Note that when this has occurred in the past, and I restart the app, I've always found that the sync had completed successfully.)
Anyway, I have emailed the Debug.txt log file to you (without restarting MPE), as requested. |
