MPE: buttons (Menu, Home, Back) stopped working on 1.8.6

After install on Windows: Extras==> Control Phone / Load Screenshot
The on-screen buttons (Menu, Home, Back) do not do anything. The device buttons were still operational.

Another strange effect was that I was blocked from installing an .apk file on my phone. The Install button on the Installation screen could not be pressed through the interface and on the device.

I don't know if this has any impact, but SuperSU is installed on this phone. Sometimes software needs 'su' access to work. This works fine with most applications. MPE did not trigger any SuperSU requests that I could tell, but sometimes the requests disappear quickly. Also, the device is set to USB debugging while plugged in. I normally use Control Phone while plugged in to USB so that I have usable responsiveness.

I was able to download 1.8.5 off of another site. 1.8.5 works fine. 1.8.6 is broken.

Android: 4.0.4

I used Kies to ensure that the drivers were updated/correct. This made no difference.
