I've tried the mentioned method in the FAQ several times and I haven't gotten it to work.
The computer, Lenovo W530 laptop that runs Windows 8.1, MPE is 1.8.6 and the phone is an LG G2 running Android 4.4.2.
The computer has Bluetooth 4.0.
This has worked on this computer, but I reinstalled it and after that reinstall I can't get it to work. How I got it to work before, I really don't know, but apparently something helped me create these virtual COM ports.
I don't have a problem creating an outgoing "COM port" with the service "MyPhoneExplorer", but it doesn't get any Port assigned. The field is empty in the Bluetooth settings window, COM Ports tab.
The settings is shown here:

Any idea on how to get a virtual com-port on here somehow?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I use this software daily. |

I also did this in W8 and cant remember how...
Go to your BT properties.
It opens & shows 3 tabs;
Options ComPorts Hardware
In Options may temporarily need to set pc to be dicoverable by other devices.
In Com ports there is nothing (?)
Click Add and it will add next Com port on the system, for me it was Com4.
Set to Incoming.
In Hardware tab, name of your device will appear in the list once connection is good.
I think when I did it:
MPE was already installed,
I added ports in BT on the fly,
since I kept receiving an error message about no com ports available
every time when I clicked on MPE sync.
Port was made and MPE sync then worked. |

Normally its not needed to add any COM-Port. Go to Bluetooth devices->Your device->rightclick->Properties->Service and ensure that the Service "MyPhoneExplorer" is checked. Windows should create then the virtual COM-Port automatically for you |

I don't see that service, but do have two "Unknown Service" entries with my Galaxy S3. MyPhoneExplorer is running on the phone when I check.
Any idea why that service isn't listed? |
