Cyanogenmod 11 and MPE - Compatibility
Cyanogenmod 11 and MPE - Compatibility
Hi.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini. I am really sick and tired of this OS being very slow, a huge amount of lags and so on.
I wish to install a cutom ROM (Cyanogenmod 11) and wish to know, up front, if it is 100% compatible with this ROM, considering that it is after all pure Android OS enhanced.
On the PC I use Windows 7 Pro x64 and Microsoft Outlook 2010 x32
If not, I am in big troubles as further on I intend purchasing the OnePlus One Smartphone that runs a custom Cyanogenmod 11 ROM.
Thank you,
Spiro

MyLocalAccount - Contact - Calendar
Hi,
I was finally able to install CM11 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 mini. As long as I do not see Samsung custom OS I am happy!
Few questions if possible to get me going with this new system as for MPE settings.
1. I was told to install MyLocalAccount App. What is this for? Is Android (hence CM11) coming without any Contact database/account?
In MPE Client under contact to sync I also see “Telephone”. What is this for? Is this just a useless selection?
As far as I know local Telephone is the account one should always use for getting other apps to see contacts, as well as Google. In my case, what should I do? I wish to properly understand for present and future needs, even on other devices.
2a. Calendar to sync: Birthday and Contact's Events should I enable them considering that in the past with Samsung I had duplicate entries between calendar and contacts?
2b. I see a new entry: Feast in Italy. Where is this coming from? The database is it coming from MPE or from Outlook? What to do this this entry?
2c. As for Calendar, do I have to first create a new one from MPE Client and then set it for sync?
3. Is there anything else I should know, perhaps in MPE Client settings, for proper sync? Again, I fully use MS Outlook 2010.
Thank you,
Spiro

I too use Outlook 2010 on my PC. I sync to the existing 'Google' calendar/contacts on my phone. BUT .... and I do mean BUT ... I turn OFF any Google sync'ing.
On the MPE PC client you will ned to set things up in File > Settings > Sync . [Contacts and Events and Tasks and Notes] > Advanced. An explanation of the individual settings can be found elsewhere on these forums if you're unsure.
On the phone client in Settings > Calendars to sync/Add new Events to - choose which one you want the data to be added to (I choose my gmail one).
Similarly for contacts. The 'Manage local calendars' is because Android now does't provide a 'phone calendar' so this creates one. This means you can still use/sync the google account seperately whilst still keeping any Outlook information. As far as I remember anyway.

to 1.: CM11 does not come with a local calendar/contact account (as e.g. stock samsung does), so if you don't want to sync to the google account, create your own one with mylocalaccount app.
the telephone you are seeing does not really work and on my phone it is automatically merged with google account after the sync.

Thanks a lot for your answers. I was able to solve my calendar issue.
I do not sync with Google so I had to create a new calendar after I installed MyLocalAccount App.
Now all is perfectly functioning.
I have few follow-up questions under MPE Client settings if possible I need to ask.
1. Stand-by with active connection: So far by default it is set to “Allow” but I fail to understand its usage.
2. Under Calendar I have two fields I do not know how to manage:
- “Birthday and contact events” and “Feasts in my country”
I use Outlook 2010 and have all my recurrent Birthday set into my calendar. With these two options unchecked I have all my birthday properly sync on my device.
Can someone please explain what are these two feature for and how do they behave considering I use Outlook 2010?
3. I still see on Contact to sync on the list “phone”. As being advised I selected MyLocalAccount (Local contacts) but what if I did select only “Phone”? What would have happened? Would it have worked anyway or MyLocalAccount is a must? I ask this because when I was running Samsung ROM I did not have to install MyLocalAccount and was selecting “Phone”. Now that I run CM11 ROM things are different.
Thank you a bunch.

1. If you would prevent the stand-by during connection then the display is kept the whole time ON. The reson is that some phones (f.e. SONY have a special battery saving mode which does turn off the WiFi Module when the phone is in standby for a while. If you have no problems with your WiFi Connection you should use the setting "Allow"
2. "Birthday and contact events" seems to be a automatically managed calendar from the phone where birthday events get generated from contact data. If you manage your birthdays in Outlook then you should UNCHECK this calendar for the sync with MPE. The same with "Feats in your country". Those calendars were not created from MyPhoneExplorer.
3. If you would select "Phone" as target account for new contacts then MPE would create new contacts without account information. Its not clear what happens with this account-less contacts. Some models can manage them without problem, but with the most models Google will grab these contacts after a while and make it to Google-Contacts. MyLocalAccount is not a must - you could use also the Google Account instead but as far as i know you don't like to store your contacts on Google. The problem when you select only "Phone" would look like this:
- MPE adds a bunch of contacts to your phone without account information
- after a while Google makes them to Google-Contacts
- if you did exclude Google-Contacts from sync with MPE then MPE will "see" an empty phonebook so he will add again the contacts to the phone.
- all in all you would get alot of duplicates.
@Anakunda: Do you have this issue also with USB-Connection ?
