After posted the question, I deleted the client from the Pixel and reloaded it being careful to grant all the required permissions. Client version 1.0.74 (same as before).
Now it DOES show Internal ... |

On my phones running Android versions 10 and below, everything works fine with MPE v1.8.15.
On my Pixel 3a, which just updated to Android 11, ALMOST everything works except for the "file" ... |
