I use Blustacks for much more than just for SMS messages. It is a full(ish) Android environment which is very useful on my Windows tablet.

The 2 cannot be running at the same time which is the problem as I have to close down Bluestacks to run MPE.

I have solved the issue - for now. I am running Bluestacks, the Android emulator. If this is running, then MPE will not find my phone. As soon as I quit Bluestacks, then MPE works correctly.

This is not ideal as Bluestacks needs to run to enable SMS messages to be displayed on my PC.

I have not used MPE since rooting my Galaxy S II (running Gingerbread). I now cannot connect to MPE. I get the error message Connection to phone could not be established: Phone could not be identified". This used to work before rooting.

All other connectivity works, and I have tried the MPE ...
