I'm on 1.8.14 (the nightly from 2020-05-14) on the computer and 1.0.73 on the phone, and syncing mms works fine, but I have a related problem:

MPE crashes if I try to include messages (with mms) from the phone when creating a backup .

All of the ~120 MB of message data is successfully fetched from ...
