I understand the behaviour comes from Google and I'd be ok if, when I connect my phone to MPE on my pc, I'd be asked something like

"use MPE as SMS app instead of xxxxx, your messages will not be deleted or modified in the change? Closing the app will move your previous sms-app as default ...
