I've downloaded this file www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk as suggested but cannot open - how do I run a .apk file?

Same problem with HTC Sensation
OBEX Errorcode: 00 - Phone didn't answer, Timeout when trying to sync contacts
This essentially means the software is unusable as the contact sync is the main feature I need.
A resolution would be much appreciated
